his is a healthy posture .well put together .
we can see his legs are straight and well spaced Plus his tail is to die for

his rich copper is just an asset by it self .

size and mass can be fixed by mating him to a bigger hens

Type =from the hen
Body color from the Rooster

this gay will produce the most colorful progeny and correct body type . gorgeous eyes

to build a solid house you need a good foundation . not just size

don t forget a marans rooster need to weight between 3.5 to 4.5 Kg
they don t have to be massive .

I agree. Boy 1 is just amazing he is so big. I suspect he has his steroids hid in the woods, no only kidding. I like them both, if I had to chose it would be very tough but I would take the second one. He is balanced, good color, nothing overdone, I like the length of his neck, great angle on his tail. Love his long back. Good eye.

looking at him from this picture .he look fine. but still better photos please .
his body type is stunning .
deep chest and wide shoulders .
love his think solid head .true marans

if his legs are straight than can not dismissed because he has straw colored hackle .BLACK HEN with GREEN SHEEN will help to fix it .

if I had them I ll breed from them both .and I ll end up with 2 differents progeny from the same hens .
some chooks even they look correct but they are not compatible in the breeding pens because of they hidden recessive genes .

I lost my main rooster and these are three of his offspring. The Black Copper is about 5 months. The two Blue Coppers where hatched June 13th. View attachment 1113772 View attachment 1113776 View attachment 1113785

sorry to hear that .

he left 3 gorgeous son to take over .he ll reste in peace .

BCM cockerel is good .
long back
gorgeous tail ( what you guys need in the USA )
his copper is too dark and has not enough red on the shoulder .
let him do more growing

love his comb

here the 3 thing I like on him and I ll breed him just for that
1) lovely comb
2) long flat tilted back
3) his sublime tail

I love the 2 BLCM chicks cockerel . they have a lot going for them especially the red coming on they shoulders
prefer more the one on the front .
Solid thick head .true marans head

chooks man

let them do more growing and keep them safe .

Thank you, I hope they turn out good. What I also like about the Black Copper is no parasitic white. That has been a problem. I am also trying to breed that out. If he turns out useable I have a couple girls to put with him. I like the BLCM in the front best also. I don't like his comb though but that can be worked on.

Chooks Man - Here are some more pics of Pullet #1. She had correct hatch down and green Eyes at hatch. She is from Otis BCM and Thelma Lou BLCM. I took these pics when it was raining so they are a little dark.

Pic from the rear - I like her leg size / spacing and closed tail.

Pic from her left (she's in mid-stride)

Pic from right side - She is a darker blue but well uniformed with good lacing. There is not much I don't like about this girl - her tail is a little longer than I prefer but the angle / set / shape is a marked improvement over her Dam's high / fanned tail.

Let me know if I'm missing anything in my evaluation.

Thanks,
Keith

Chooks Man - Here are better pics of Pullet #2. She is also from Otis BCM and Thelma Lou BLCM.

Pic from the front - this girl is wide and broad. I like her leg size / spacing and she has a small wrinkle at the front of her comb.
IMG_3048.JPG

Pic from left side - I like her long back, type, size and head. Her tail baffles me - sometimes her tail is thin / pointed and other times it's fanned but overall their is some improvement over her Dam's high / fanned tail.

She has the best copper hackles of all my Spring pullets but the color could be more dense.

Let me know what you see for this girl.

Thanks,
Keith

I didn't take anymore pictures but I've been watching him close. You were right about his legs, they're just way to close together. He's been moved to the butcher pen. I'll be keeping the other one to breed. I do have 1 more young cockerel growing out but he's still too young to tell how he'll look.

my hens restart laying yesterday . 3 of them . too early I was not expecting them to restart tell the middle /end of the month .
guess they like the new farm location weather .
the 5 eggs are number 5 nothing special .just nice sheen .

PS ; I found a small egg in the pullet pen .they are just 5 month old .hatched a day before Xmas .

well happy about the thing .

You have become spoiled my friend...... nice eggs!

My hubby just culled this cockerel. Yes I said I would grow the rest out, but this one was just horrible. He held his wings way up on his back. There was no hope for this one.

Cockerel #2 is just amazing! Beautiful type, back length, and tail angle. He has rich copper color, no halo. He will make you some fine babies. Excellent job! :)
