International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Got all of the black copper grow outs wing banded today. As we were going through them I believe I am missing a few. I am also missing my old Sussex hen that was free ranging. I loved that old girl. :(

Our male GP Rowdy is getting old and has cancer so he must be slipping on varmint control. We have another Pyrenees but we have to keep her put up. I may have to buy a new male GP pup soon and start training.

Anyway, as of today I have:
1 FRF x LA cockerel
4 FRF x LA pullets
3 LA pullets
2 LA cockerels
3 FRF pullets
3 FRF cockerels

I didnt wing band my blue copper pullets because they are toe punched and I can tell them apart easily. There are 4 of them. I did not keep any blue copper cockerels because I intend on breeding a black copper cockerel to a blue copper pullet to improve egg color. I really did not have room for the extra blue copper cockerels.

Its been a very busy and hot day.

Thanks Chooks Man! I'm well pleased with the pullets from this Spring. I have 2 more BLCM Pullets from Briscoe x Charlene that are similar in type to the pullets I have shown on this forum except their Blue is washed out. If these lighter pullets lay good dark eggs then I may use them in a breeding program with a BCM.

Here is my plan:

1) Swap Spring Breeding Combinations: Breed Otis to Charlene and Ellie May then breed Briscoe to Thelma Lou to see how their genes work together. If it doesn't work out then I'll make soup. Who knows, maybe switching them up will give me better cockerels.

2) Breed the Sires to their daughters after their first adult molt.

Thanks Again,
Chooks

I agree with you 100%

Cockerels most the time they come from the hens line because of the sex linked genes . mama hens passes all those type of genes to her son s not daughters .
when we work on line breeding the chooks . the PULLETS LINE come from the Sire and a COCKERELS LINE come from the Dam.

now my friend you cracked the PULLETS LINE and 2 of them .
what you need is to find the hen/hens who are willing to become the Dam/Dam s of Sire s .
she is hidden in there .GOOD LUCK OF FINDING HER.

I thought I would take a couple pictures of my girls for you to evaluate now since you've helped me chose a boy.

This is Faith. She's about 3 years old now and going through molt so she's not at her best right now.

Pullet #2 She wouldn't cooperate with me for pictures so she would NOT stand up until I got close and then she took off lol. That same young cockerel is in a couple of these pictures too.

Where is HD Quality Marans located? I couldn't find it on the FB page. Maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough

Hey Pammie Sue,

Mr. Moore is located in Oklahoma - eastern side of the state I believe. He doesn't list his location on his Facebook page cause he probably doesn't want people showing up unannounced. I've never talked to him but I understand he is pretty good about following up with emails or PMs. The guy I got my Marans from is good friends with Mr. Moore.

Take Care,
Keith
