what a stunning copper . rich ,red ,pure and lush .
the one on the left ( front ) has a top nosh hackle , minimum flame and very thin plus his ears tuft are the same color to his hackle .
this guy is all about body marking and body color 10/10

the one on the back has a gorgeous hackle too ,better flamed if you breeding to show ,but not as a greater asset in the breeding pen as cockerel one ( talking body color here )

still comparing the body marking between the 2 cockerels .
from this photo I see cockerel1 on the left has a better shoulder marking ( not patched out ) rich red copper . Balanced Autossomal Red . better quality pullet marking

cockerel 2 on the right . his shoulder are not well colored , his Autossomal Red genes are not in a good sequence .a portion of his pullets progeny will be black not all because he still have a cleared colored ears tufts . very important .

I do not breed from this 2 cockerel if I m working on the comb and tail

I LL BREED FROM THEM JUST FOR THEY BODY COLOR AND GORGEOUS ORANGE EYES

a secret of breeding chooks .a person should have many lines to breed from of each varieties . make it easy to fix the good and breed out the bad .

very rare for us to find a sublime breeder chooks( Sire or Dam) , so when we come across some thing gorgeous we can t ignore it .we have to lock it in some how some where ,because maybe we never see that quality in that specific area again .

I am sorry to say, any Marans with yellow soles/skin should be culled. Yellow leg recessive genes will return to haunt you. Marans should have white/pinkish soles and white skin. My first set of Marans from a "breeder" that raised more for egg color and not so much SOP which I came to find out later, the birds I hatched and grew out from them 10-15% came yellow skinned and willow legged. I was advised to cull the whole lot and start over, and so I did.

What you do with your birds is completely up to you. I was new to Marans and followed the advice of Marans breeders I had talked to and come to trust (before I met all you guys on BYC! :D), so I culled and started over with a different line entirely (several actually). You can test mate birds to eliminate yellow leg recessive genes but it can be a lengthy and difficult process as a bird can carry a recessive gene for yellow skin, while showing an outward phenotype for white skin as I have come to understand. Is this correct @Chooks man? Two birds carrying recessive genes for yellow skin, even while showing proper skin/leg color outwardly can pair up to yield a yellow skinned/willow legged throwback. Recessive genes are a pain in the ***.

Chooks man would never recommend culling an entire line and starting over, so he may be able to offer you advice on how to test mate and eliminate the trait. I am actually struggling with recessive genes in one of my lines of Marans.. Vulture hocks, which has been frustrating for me to say the least. My LA line of BCM is throwing about 10% chicks with vulture hocks, and the ones that don't show vulture hocks you can bet your bottom dollar carry the recessive gene for it. It really does make you want to scrap a line and move on, but I won't because the line has some nice qualities otherwise.

agree with you my friend .culling an entire line is not my trait .

Culling practice a lone does not do us any favors ,will just empty our chooks ward .

healthy note books .good camera and spending some quality time observing ,will help us breed great chooks .

Hey chooks. Thanks for your reply.

I can't really tell the difference between them, so I will post videos of them one by one until I find one you like.

Here is a video of Red (first one you liked) from the back side.
