International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

It is very difficult to judge them from these pictures.

Roo 1 has

a good orange eye
copper ear tuft
horn colored beak
good coloring over all
he has a long back
he is more rectangular in shape
never worry about leg feathering - your hens will take care of that
looking at your hens this is the cockerel I would pick.... those pullets will need a rooster with good color - they need some hackle color and that will come from the rooster
they also look like they have dark eyes

Roo 2
the pictures make it difficult to judge him but...
he does not have the good coloring of #1
his eye looks dark
he has a dark ear tuft
he looks triangular to me lacking mass/breast
he may be better than these pictures but that is what I see
X3

Ok so a few more question pic are 16 weeks. When at how many weeks will It be easier to know what we have with roos and hens?
Also they are running with our layer flock now so should I separate roos into 2 pens and should the hens go too ? Just not sure if both roos go Into 1 pen or 2 and if the hens need to go in there too.
The reason I want to separate is I don't want roo 1 picking breeding partners In the laying house which he has started to do.
Thanks scott

Thanks Chooks Man. I won’t be doing any showing. There not much around my area. I live on Vancouver Island.
One other cockerel I could choose. Granted he seems slower maturing, he’s not as large as some of the others and he slower colouring, his eyes are starting to change. I had one like this years ago and by just over a year his eyes and colouring were great. I just like this one as he’s got pretty good leg feathering and what I think is not an overly large comb.

Can I ask how old he is? Just trying to figure out what I'd see at what age. We have one roo that's growing slower and not sure what age we will know if we should give up on them.

From what I can see I like him a lot..... better than the previous second pick, maybe better than my first pick. I am amazed at the first picture you posted..... it looks like an oil painting. How did you do that?

Here is #12, another FRF x LA pullet. I have decided to breed her to Maximus also as soon as we build another pen. I worry she may make her male offspring's copper too light since her hackle is so light. Otherwise her back is nice and long and her tail is a nice angle. She's looking a little more chunky these days, but she is the smallest FRF x LA pullet out of the bunch.

@RedBanks these are for you, since you like Griffin so much. He tagged around all day while I was outside so I snapped a few pics. I noticed today his comb has a S curve in the front, just like #60 (pure LA hen). I'd bet a pretty penny that #60 is Griffin's dam.

I like the hackle on the hen in the background is that the one in the last pics? It’s light but is it due to sun?
