[Chooks man]

All of my cull cockerels will go into the freezer and any cull pullets or hens I have can be used or sold as layers. I am also going to offer Olive Egger chicks and/or hatching eggs to people as I've had a lot of requests for them. I gave a friend of mine two of my autosexing Olive Egger pullets when she bought the last of my Sussex birds. Since then through word of mouth I have had tons of people contact me to inquire about them. As far as I know there isn't anyone else in my area that offers Olive Eggers so I think that would be a good way for my birds to earn their keep.

I really like that. sound great .
it is nice if you can let your chooks express the selves and help you to feed them .they can support them selves for sure .

it is a good start if you can sale fertile eggs and a cull pullets as a layer .I do the same things .

go for it and supply them with what need if there isn t any one in your area doing it .establish your self among chooks buyers .

it is bad .
it is like the crippled toes .never goes away . too many genes involved .hard to isolate them and breed them out .

she is a layer for sure . she ll make some body happy . not all the chooks are design for the show .
we only keep the best for ours selves .we are doing the hard work any way .So we deserve a best .

she is a cull my dear friend .
some thing I never work with is a physical deformity . nightmare to breed out in the future .
crippled toes.
X leg
crooked Beak
Hump on the back
Flopped comb on the rooster
Blindness

there is more .
any chooks with a physical deformity is a cull .very simple .

Ok thank you. That was my first instinct but I wanted to make sure. I will have my husband cull her tomorrow. There's no sense in keeping her as a layer, I will have plenty layers. And I dont want to sell her to anyone because of the defect/deformity. I surely wouldnt want to keep her around and her accidentally happen to reproduce.

thank you for the kinds world .
I see the chooks from all the different angle .I m not a show judge but a breeder. for me each good gene if present in the chooks is a keeper .not a cull .
I can breed the fault out but I can not come out of the good gene from nothing just from the air .( not a magician ) first I need to find a good genes .some time there is only one good thing in the chooks but it is a good one ( great comb ,or great tail) the rest of the chook not good .So I have to keep the bird and capture the good and breed them true before they get lost .
each gene is very important to me . it is like building a house .each brick is important ,plus doors windows etc........... they are all necessary for the build .

my method of breeding chooks is .first ,capture all the goods traits and breed them true before I start breeding the bad thing out .

I m trying to keep the genetic diversity as well .very important for the future .

This is the most important thing I have learned from Chooks man. I try to ask myself what do I like about a bird. All my birds are capable of producing the kind of BCM I want to see in my yard. The only way that won't happen is because of me not them. It is my job to improve them and guide the program but I don't need different birds and I don't need to cull everything. If I had as many birds as Chooks man I could afford to be more critical/cull more. It will take me much longer to get there but I can still get there.

Also, here is a cockerel with something funky going on with his beak. It looks like a hard tumor or growth. Ive never experienced these issues in my Games or other breeds.
Shall I cull him as well?

The cockerel with the growth on his beak has marbled eyes anyway and has inherited his mother's S shaped comb. I will have better roosters to pick through and see no point in growing him out until he matures.
