Well I can take credit for choosing the birds I kept.

Here are a couple of our New Years babies. Looks like I'm going to have some boys to choose from! You guys will have to help me with that of course. Not everyone was cooperative enough to get in the picture.

Cute looking bunch! Its good you have plenty of boys to pick from. The little cockerels sure look like nice robust chicks. Looking forward to see them grow up! :)

it is not a good practice to leave a cockerel with a pullets before they mature and ready to breed from .
I do leave a some gentle cockerels with a pullets at a high density .1 cockerel to 15/20 pullets .
I like my pullets to mature fast and nice without any physical delay .
the cockerels can be penned together at the young age ,so they don t fight as much ,no girls around .

Young cockerels can be brutal.

Thank you! They're comical little buggers too. This Mormons, one was up on the roost bar in there, all stretched out and "sunbathing" neat the heat lamp lol. This group is especially friendly too :)

A few moments ago I heard some noise on the porch. I looked out and there was that persistent hen that has been trying to nest on the porch all week. Then I realized that I had not let the chickens out yet! She must have slept with the cats. I will have to count tonight when I lock them up. Hens can be downright crazy.

my pullet is still alive but weak. I think she will bi sick for at least 3 weeks (virus). I am sick too, probably virus, too.

the pullet had swollen throat but she never gasped again. I think she was short of oxygen in the dog's crate due to ammonia. her poop was smelly. I took the roof/top off and she has more fresh air around. she ate some banana and boiled egg. I still syringe her honey water with vitamins.

it is cold these days. the other girls are recovering but their wounds need time to heal. they eat, drink and lay. the boys are ok so far.
