International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Thank you. I believe there are 10, maybe 9. Now I'm going to have to count again. I know at least 4 are boys :/ I know it's not a lot to work with but it's better than nothing.

Little Peddler started with a trio. I am sorry for your difficulties. It seems with chickens you don't just coast along. There are tremendous triumphs and terrible setbacks.:hugs

As promised, I took a picture of each of the chicks today. There are 10. I double checked their age. 6 are 4 weeks old, on the dot, 4 are 2 1/2 weeks old. The younger ones are going to be harder to tell but I think most of them are boys. I've never seen chicks grow this fast (besides Cornish cross). Even the Marans I've raised in the past were not such huge chicks! I swear, they're half bald from their down being stretched so thin! I tried my best to get clear pictures but between their squirming and my camera not cooperating....I did my best.

Here are the younger ones:

Thank you Chooks Man! I hope you're right about there being a lot of pullets in the younger group. I'm going to have quite the choice of boys though lol

Thank you again for looking over my chicks! I found the pullet with the brown spot and banded her so I can keep track of her and periodically post pictures of her development. I hope she every bit the star that you say she is. Now, I'm debating, do I name her Star (since she obviously is one), or Phoenix (since she's rising up from the ashes of disaster).

They are both good names! I think I would combine the two names. Phoenix Star or the Star of Phoenix. lol
