International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Thanks y’all, but a whole article about odd ball eggs just came up on the main page. Very helpful:)

hope you found the answer you where looking for in the article.

if she just laid one egg like that .it is normal .soe time they do that .

if does happen too often than the hen is fat .

It appears I have lost Spartacus (from RedBank's line). I had let his group free range while it was nice out and I'm guessing a hawk must have gotten him. No feathers, no trace, just gone. It pains me to have to keep my remaining RedBanks birds cooped up until they are too large for a hawk to prey upon, but I can't afford to lose them.

Thank you again for looking over my chicks! I found the pullet with the brown spot and banded her so I can keep track of her and periodically post pictures of her development. I hope she every bit the star that you say she is. Now, I'm debating, do I name her Star (since she obviously is one), or Phoenix (since she's rising up from the ashes of disaster).

I like the name Star for your little pullet chick with the brown spot. Star because she is special, and star because she will likely be one of the stars of your breeding program when she is older. I would love the name Phoenix for a male. Maybe one of your cockerel chicks you like best. Very nice babies you have there!

Thank you! Maybe I will do that but I'm going to wait till the boys get bigger. The best one, I'll name Phoenix :)

View attachment 1250923 Not trying to hijack or anything but is it bad for a hen(a year & a half old) to lay a fart egg like this? Just wanted an opinion on if something could be wrong with her plumbing. I want to keep an eye on her

in my flock it was IB, fat hen or just happened. watch the hen who laid it.
