International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I know exactly what you mean! I am a chicken hoarder so I don't like parting with them unless I'm eating them. I have several people wanting legbar pullets locally but I want to keep all mine. Lol
Maybe when we have enough we will be able to part with some. Of course..... one can never have enough. I bought my CL from GFF.

Yeah if you have plenty I wouldn't see any harm in parting with some. I may cull through and sell a few grow outs later on. My CLs came from a breeder who got his birds from GFF. They are pure Jill Rees. Speaking of Legbars, I am still waiting on my White Legbar eggs! The breeder's hens stopped laying after their molt and are just now picking up again enough to send eggs she said. But now that they are finally laying well again the breeder has said she has to check their fertility before she sends any eggs. I feel like I have been waiting forever, so what's another week or two? Maybe I'll get them someday. :hmm

It is not like you don't have any chickens to keep you busy!

I took a couple pics of my oldest blue copper pullet earlier today. She has a little bump on her beak and I found out from a chicken buddy of mine that wire cages/brooders or metal feeders cause it when the birds tissue makes contact. I think one of you suggested that was how it occurred. So its harmless and simply a blemish.

Teasing me.

For awhile there i thought i was the only young person with a passion for chickens, seeing as all my friends and peers look at me like I'm speaking in cling-on(star trek i believe) when i talk about chickens. But i see there's atleast a couple people here that younger also. It's good to know, are y'all also searching for the wisdom that only comes from time, from the people that have lived the years to gain it. If that makes any sense.

I'm the crazy chicken lady at work, and of course I get tagged in every chicken related facebook post that anyone comes across. I amuse non-chicken people with all my chicken talk like they've never ever walked outside, and when I talk about chickens to my sister her eyes glaze over like "who cares???" lol So yeah it's nice to have a place to come to and chat with others that enjoy chickens as much as I do. You'll never meet better people than chicken people! You come over to visit chicken friends and we'll send you home with a new hen or pullet just because you thought she was pretty (or several), just ask my neighbor. :D

J'adore le blues! Their lacing is tres magnifique! The little splash pullet is lovely also! They all look really good. I think you will have some very nice breeding stock there!
Thank you, I hope for a few good ones. I have noticed most of the Blue Coppers are cockerals. Most of my splash are pullets. At least that's what I see at this point. Time will tell.

Busy and then some! But I love them, they bring me a lot of joy! There is always chicken drama and its amusing, but not always! Like today for example. I have one black copper cockerel from my blue copper line that has beautiful color and type so far.. just gorgeous tail angle and mass, all of it! I admire him everyday! Well today a gamecock grabbed him by the neck when the cockerel got too close at feeding time and as the cockerel struggled to get away the gamecock pulled a HUGE chunk of skin off the back of his neck! I mean actual flesh.. feathers, skin, everything! It was so horrible!! I hope he heals up, even if it will leave him permanently scarred. He is in a pen to himself so he can hopefully recover. I didn't have the heart to cull him. Poor little guy.. :hit

Lol, I know exactly what you mean. My friends think I am chicken crazy. What else is there to talk about. They tag me with all these posts from chicken buggy to chicken harness. My nickname is Ellie Mae. Lol

So sorry! I hope he gets better soon. In chickens everything can and will happen. :hugs
