International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

The only thing my friends want to hear about concerning my chickens is do I have any eggs. They like my eggs! That's alright. I don't want to hear detailed information about their interests either.

Same here! I'm more of a chicken person than a people person anyway. All anyone ever wants to talk about is each other. They usually have way too much drama for me. Definitely not me scene.

Bless her heart. I think I remember you telling me about that before. That really gives me hope he will get better. I know chickens are tough and resilient. What I worry about are flies blowing the wound and infection so I will keep antiseptic handy and he will get antibiotics if necessary. I decided to separate him from the rest because chickens love blood. That may sound gruesome but its the truth. When we dub or butcher birds and there is blood on the ground, they pick and pick at the blood like its a delicasy. When one chicken is bloody, they all converge and eat at the wound like piranhas. I felt he would be safer in solitary. Lol
I kept her covered in blue kote (blue lotion). They don't know there is blood there. The other day I saw a little pack of hens picking at something. I thought they were after a bug or they had found a patch of weeds they liked. A little while later I walked by them, they had killed a giant beautiful lizard.... his head was as big as a garden snake, no small lizard. I have never seen one like him. I felt so bad. I wish I had investigated sooner. I am pretty sure he was going to be lunch.

I sprayed him with blu kote to keep the wound clean. I will keep you posted on how he does. But yeah chickens are definitely opportunistic carnivores. They will eat mice, frogs, snakes, lizzards.. pretty much anything that doesnt eat them first. Lol

Not my scene either. I was helping with a group of ladies and had to stop. I don't like being drawn into all the drama. Life is stressful enough without all that! Now us chicken people. We got each other's backs. We are a good bunch. We can and will talk chickens for hours.
