International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I have named the Cockerels so from now on #1 is Bello 6 months old #2 is Claude 5 months old and #3 is Antonio 5 months old. I went with ABC. You have seen a lot of Antonio and Bello. This is Claude.

He has a nice back, he seems fairly balanced. I like all 3 quite a bit, this guy would produce well marked pullets.

he is the best type of the three . the ideal
every thing is well proportioned and balanced .
very deep and wide chest properly marked .
look at his feet well strait ,solid holding his big body very well .

Like I said before his copper color is not great . too much gold on him. Could be fixed .

here how I ll work with him = I ll mate him to the black hen s or the hen s with a Darker coppery hackle ( mahogany type - Fault- ) = this sort of mating will give a god portion of the progeny with a proper copper coloration . Because of the extra Mahogany the hen s carry with them .

this 2 genes ,the Mh mahogany and MI Melanotic genes will darken the gold to a good copper coloration .

her the reason why .
black copper rooster and the Wheaten rooster both carry the same gene s+/s+ ( Gold ) but why one is copper ( black copper ) the other is Gold ( Wheaten ) .what causing t ?

the cause is the amount of the Mahogany and Melanotic differ in both.
the Black copper rooster has more Mh and MI ,making him copper .this is one reason why the BC should have a doll / flat black ( no sheen ) is to control the amount and the quality of the Melanin.

Wheaten rooster has less Mh and MI ( because the hen is not black we don t need a good quality Melanin ) . this is the reason why the Wheaten rooster should have a shinny black ( all the black part should be shinny ) not doll /flat black.

here his ladies ho will compliment him very well and they will give a great result if they are mated .

look at the copper on the hen s hackles very dark and a little .

this sort of mating should be avoided if we are working on the comb.

I told you the first time I saw him he s a keeper just for his type . one of the greatest i ve seen .

we are not going to get ready of a great rooster like him for one fault ,when he carry a truck load of goodies.

good move RedBank put him over a black hens . they have nice eggs . you will be surprise about they progeny .

We can fix a lot.... instead of just waiting for a good one to pop up in the incubator we can create them with some selective breeding. Strengths against weaknesses.

I fully agree with you .

all this chooks breeds we are talking about did not exist in the wild . all been bred by man/woman with dedication and a love for the chooks .

the incubatoe will only hatch what we put in t .
we can not put necked neck eggs in the bator and expect marans chicks will hatch instead .

choosing the breeders ,taking notes . test mating . good eyes to spot a good and the bad. awareness of the standard of the breed. hatch at lease 25 chicks from each pairing to stay on truck.
keeping the genetic diversity within the sibling and allowing the appearance of the ATAVISTIC RETURN if still there.
