If I call them Neked marans I ll have a lot trouble with a marans peoples. they will take me to court I guess.I think.

the rules are if you create your own strain ,you have the right to name it.BUT don t copies some body else existing name.

ONE DAY NOT NOW my hand are full of marans and they eed a lot of attention and time.

I have one roo in with 17 hens, 12 of which are BCM. My fertility rate this spring on my BCM eggs was about 90% I didn't have any complaints, plus a hatch rate on shipped eggs across the country (Canada) avg about 75%.

I didn't understand this post. do you have pens 10 m2 per chicken or total 10 m2?

another question: 10 hens and 1 roo, what is a fertility rate? I read somewhere that for breeding 6-7 hens per 1 roo is better, just to make sure that all the eggs are fertile. is that true or not?

my chickens only sleep inside the pen so I have small sleeping areas with roosts.

Yes. The woman first purchased 18, 15 hatched, she was so impressed I she bought 36, 27 hatched. That was shipping 3700 Kms. Although I think slot has to do with the packaging. Each egg wrapped in tissue and put in normal styro egg carton. Then put in a 30x22x20 cm box and packed snug with bubble wrap all around.

that is stunning rate .Bravo

I got 60 % hatching rate from the shipped eggs.

are those a parent of your pullets . I see a lot similarity ; long back .solid black . thick head.. nice copper.great tail. chooks man
The pullets hatched from different parents but they are related, probably neices to these. The breeder sent me eggs from 2 different pens so I hatched the eggs separately. One group was marked with an X so I would be able to tell them apart from the others. All of my cockerels hatched from the unmarked eggs from these parent birds and all of my pullets hatched from eggs marked with an X. I toe punched each group differently. My cockerels and pullets from this line are not brothers and sisters. The cock and hens in the picture are the parents of my cockerels just for clarity. Luckily I have kept meticulous records. Lol
