so how hard is it really? To be able to get rid of sprigs? Or use the roo anyway and just keep culling for sprigs when it appears?
I'm messing with a landrace breed (Swedish flower hen breed) but am lurking here to learn.
if you are working with a comb .than you need to focus more on the hens comb not the rooster comb.
the cockerels inherit most of they genetic trait from they mothers ( Dam ) and some from they fathers ( Sire)
good chooks breeders have established they pullets and cockerels lines . . they know how to balance the pairing and keep working on each genetic trait separately .fixing it on the cockerels line or the pullets lines .
if you are working on body color ( pattern ) than the Rooster s your best chose NOT the hens.
