International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

RedBank that is. Great that you are happy with Antonio do u know witch pullet are his hatch mate.
Consistent 5 to 7 colored eggs are great
Have u managed to catch them. Who is laying what

There is a lot of uniformity in my two groups of BCM. As the younger pullets get older they are starting to look a lot like Gabby. Just as with the cockerels you can see the two different lines that make up FRF's birds. I just snapped some more pics this morning. Aren't we going thru pic withdrawal? Antonio and these pullets are a month younger than Bello, Claudio and Gabby's group. Antonio and one of his pullets.

No I don't know who is who. I can tell you that the birds have two looks. The pullets either have the soft pretty "Gabby" look or the more dinosaur look. I will get better pics tomorrow to illustrate my point. Same with the cockerels. Bello and Claudio are lookalikes. Antonio was in my second group. From the beginning he did not look like the other cockerels. If I had not started talking to you right at the time I had begun culling I would have culled Antonio. He looked so different with that long back and big body. You made me study the SOP and I realized I was looking at them all wrong.

This weekend I will take my Ameraucana cockerels to a swap. That will free up a pen to put a couple of pullets just to see who is laying what. I plan on banding them and confining them a few at a time. It won't be long before they will be old enough to test mate.

Cockerel behavior question (also asking in the Marans discussion board)
When did your cockerel start displaying his dominance? Mine just turned 14 weeks and has found himself chasing a few pullets and even getting one to submit though she isn't laying eggs yet. Not sure if this is a normal timeframe or if there's an early bloomer here.

cockerels mature earlier.

@Chooks man

Moving day! I wish you minimal moving calamities! There is no such thing as a perfect move.
