both of this pullets are gorgeous. type. color and every thing I can see . nice coppery hackles . nice long back . nice tail do they come from your hens ? chooks man
Yes they are from my hens. And I'm going to change which cockerel gets saved. I will post pics in the next cpl days. I know you say comb is inherited from hen, so does that mean when choosing which cockerel to keep don't even worry about the comb?

if they come from your hens than chose a well colorful cockerel over them.

the comb is from the hens ,so if they have a nice one than I don t worry to much about the cockerel. if they have a bad one than is different story. there is another method to work with .

if you still have a rooster ( a father ) then use him over his pullets .he seem to throw some nice ones .

your Black copper are not far of to be great marans , I can see a lot good quality on them .

you need a good breeding strategy to keep breeding them properly generation after generation .fixing one fault at the time and adding quality to them by selecting only the best one to go forward .

My first ever in the history of my world Black Copper Marans eggs.

very nice . I liked that pullet any way just for her body type now she prove she can lay dark eggs too .good girl.

a problem now is to find her a mate .the one who can add color to the eggs or just maintaining what she have .

with a over colored cockerel or rooster even a small one she will give you a nice chicks for the future .

it seems that luna will be a good layer like her mom was. she already laid 6 eggs, I guess #5 colour. only the first one was #4 and 34 grams, the other ones are around 42-43 gr. I am afraid she will not lay darker eggs as she lays almost every day - she had only 1 day off.
