International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I'm out in BC, there are a few good breeders out this way i would recommend

I am in western Alberta. I bought mine from a breeder in BC but would definitely like more information on some other BC breeders. You can PM me if you would rather not post publicly.

Post pictures of your rooster.... bad comb and all. Most of us are in the same boat right now. Chooks Man will tell you if he likes a rooster even if it has no comb! We love pictures. Eggs will get lighter depending on how often and for how long they have been laying. They run out of "ink". A bad layer is usually a dark egg layer.

Interesting Ha so I shouldnt be too bummed by the pigment, as these girls have been laying almost every day for about three months now.

I will go out and see if I can get a decent photo. His comb is very bad, and our -30 spells definitely aren't helping unfortunately. Its a balmy +5 today so hopefully it stays that way for a little while.

Here are some eggs I've been saving up for the incubator this week. I keep eggs in an auto turner while I'm saving them up to be set so I don't have to remember to keep them turned. It's funny because now that the Marans are laying, the other breeds are slacking off. Once the days start getting longer I will be happy to see more eggs.

The Marans egg on the farthest left in the turner is from one of my Splash Coppers that Mud (FRF cockerel) is covering. There is another Splash that is laying also, but her egg is still on the smaller size so I won't set from her until they get bigger. The 4 Marans eggs to the right are from the LA pen.

Here is another pic (LA eggs). It appears I have at least 2 LA pullets laying now.

Quick question- do they have too much copper? Both of my Roos don't have that much.

I am just loving the LP rooster, despite the white tail feathers. White can be corrected as Chooks man said. The GFF cockerel is lovely also. It it awesome to see the roosters that sired Mud, Rusty, and my FRF pullet. Mud looks so much like the LP rooster.

I think Rusty was the one we thought looked like Antonio when he was younger, but I can't quite remember. Rusty had some Copper on his breast when he was younger but not as much now. Rusty has beautiful color and is a solid feeling bird when you get him in your hands, but I was avoiding using him because of his side sprig. He also has a shorter back and a higher tail tail than Mud. I will try to get some pics tomorrow if it's not raining and see which looks like which.

How redneck would it be if I just went and got Mud out of his coop and took pics of him on my kitchen counter?

It's getting dark and they are on the roost, but I'm dying to take some good pics of him.
