International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

They have really grown. They look great!

On yeah they did a lot grown .
the first group of 6 are 1 weeks old
second group are 9 weeks old ,and group 10 are 1 week old .

one group are hatching today ,than 2 more to go and that is the end of my first part of breeding this year .over 430 chicks .
I wasn t expecting that ,especially after by Spring set back ( 700 eggs lost in the incubation . bad incubator)

the cheap incubator I bought did very well . they saved a day for a cost of $1000 .

I managed to get one Colombian cockerel from White storm he is not huge like Hercules ,but handsome .still only weeks old .start to feather up .

got some buff cockerels too from the same line too 3 of them and 1 pullet so far .still have few more .they just to young under 2 weeks of age not enough feathers to tell .

White Storm has the gene I m looking for .Db .this gene if associated with a gold s+ will yield a buff color pattern and if associated to a Silver S will give a Colombian I m looking for.

here one of his son Split white ( bonus he is S/s+ mean his hackle is silver but his back is gold/silver. ) this cockerel when mated to his sublime will give some pure White Silver based .better White.

the one on the front . I have his brother younger than him. look exactly like him .So I named them . Blondie Storm 1 and Blondie Storm 2 ( they will add more yellow as they grow. they are the sons of Storm

Me too! I am going to give him my best hens. I will start hatching only the darkest eggs.

we talked about incubating only the dark eggs .is a bad practice ,
we need to know witch egg come from witch hens ,than incubate all the eggs ( not the deformed or under weight ) from the best performing hen .based on the number of the first 30 eggs of her laying cycle .

what Gabby s egg are like ? because she have a great phenotype .

Good luck to you .

See..... I must have missed that post. Gabby has beautiful dark eggs always 5-6+, no spots. So do her hatch mates and a lot of them look just like her, they just don't have her personality.

welcome back and get well soon!

I look forward to see the pics of your beautiful chickens.

I thought pullet too!

She did turn out to be a pullet! We were right!

Thank you Chooks Man! I missed you and everyone here. I was gone so long I can't catch up on the posts. Just going to have to risk it that I haven't missed too much and most likely someone down the road will answer the same question. Haven't lost a chicken in months. Since I got the dog the varmints have stayed away but..... I caught the dog with an egg in his mouth today.

The flock is doing great. I could not walk much for a couple of weeks but on the road to recovery...... almost 100%. Hurt my back lifting chicken feed! I had to really let things slide though so I am way behind.

My hens never stopped laying and the eggs are still pretty dark. I have a man coming to cut trees and I am going to move the coops. Poor Antonio I am going to destroy his world. He is amazing rooster taking care of his little flock.

I am just going to get a little Brinsea. I am getting between 15 to 22 eggs a day. Nothing like your operation but a lot of eggs for me!

Sorry to hear about your back injury! Glad you are recovering well.

OMG 15-22 Marans eggs a day.. that must be heaven! We are getting quite a few eggs now, but usually only 4-6 Marans eggs per day at the most. Even my free-loading Easter Egger has been laying. lol.

Antonio will adjust, chickens adapt quickly to change. Can't wait to see chicks from him!

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread. I have been gone from backyard chickens for several years! I recently purchased some BCM from LP. I am super excited, but can't count my chickens before they hatch.

This is the first full day for my seven LP eggs in the incubator . I just love BCM, they have to be one of the most beautiful breeds of chickens in the entire world. It is very gracious of the veteran marans breeders to share their wealth of knowledge with others. I have not been able to read the complete thread, but wow, a wealth of information. I would love to share pics of my LP chicks with you all if they hatch. I know that incubating shipped hatching eggs is risky business. Anyway, it's been a pleasure reading this thread. Best of luck to everyone, and their beautiful birds. I really enjoy all the pics.

Hey neighbor!

Always nice to run into fellow Marans folks from Kentucky.

Good luck with your LP eggs! And welcome to the thread. LP is a wonderful line of pure French Marans here in the US. Both of the lines of BCM I am working with have LP blood in them. I hope you have a great hatch!
