International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Hi you guys! I didn't realize this thread was here and I've got a question about my FBCM pullet I purchase around a month ago. She's approx 16-18 wks old and she's got a white flight feather and a white feather on her foot. Does this happen sometimes ordoes this mean she's not pure? Also do you think it's possible she'll lose the white bc somewhere I read that they will during the juv molt but I don't know how legit that source was. Also @Chooks man your birds are REALLY pretty! One like that first pullet is what I was hoping to get but my girl has less red and just overall isn't as flashy.

the white feathers on the wing /tail /shanks are called parasitic white . they are hereditary ( mean one of her parent had them ).
you have to wait tell her first molt and see if they go away .sometime they do ,other time they get worst .

they can be caused by stress and health issues .

photos of her please . that will help

Oh wow! I hope it's not from stress but she did carry her tail extremely low up until prob the last week. I'll get some pics tomorrow to post. Thank you for the info.

Ok here she is. This is seriously the best o could get and none of the show the white feathers. It's literally just 2 feathers tho and the white flight feather that used to be able to see easily appears to be covered up now. Anyway I'm clearly the only member in the land of BYC who's chickens HATE her and this is unfortunately the best I could do.

she is good type and well colored .I can see nice copper showing up on her hackle .

she still young ,few more molt to go before she is done . don t worry too much about the white feathers now . let her do more growing

a problem I see is her black eyes . the should be blue/green at that stage.

Thank you! She was supposedly bred from a lady's show stock but didn't make the cut to stay in the breeding program. So is her incorrect eye color a cause for concern or is it just outside conformation standards?

if a marans chicks are raised in confine space for too long they ll develop the white feathers .
if they get sick at the young age they ll develop the white feathers too .

Oh no. She showed signs of respiratory illness not long after I got her and some of my other birds had a few symptoms as well. I treated with tetracycline in the water for 5 days and ALL symptoms disappeared with no losses. She did carry her tail very low after this for quite some time. Just lately beginning to pick it up. If the white was caused from illness it should be temporary right? Also she is with 8 other pullets in a 100 ft run with small attached coop most of the day but gets free range in my yard for at least a couple hrs each evening so I don't think she's too confined.

I agree with you ,she is not confine any more .
if the white is caused by stress or illness ,soon will go away . I think she is in a great space

Black eyes is a disqualification for the show .that why she can t show her .
