Here is a more recent pic of Apollo, my LA cockerel. He is around 8 months old now. I have a few eggs from him and his aunt (#60) in the incubator. Praying for offspring with better tails!

Apollo is great in every aspect except his high tail and the points on his comb are joint ( 5 and 6 forming an M like )
both of this 2 fault are not that bad .
the tail is high but has the best shape ,best form and pure black ,only you need to work on the angle that all
the comb is nice shape not too big neither small , well lifted from the back No touching any thing

I love his type .his body marking .his rich copper and his pure black plumage No parasitic white any where .

I keep telling you .
you have all the ingredient to make one of the best BCM line . just hatch a large number and get it done .don t lose too much time .the chooks don t live for ever .

I like Apollo a lot .if I had him I ll hatch over 100 chicks from him like I did with my Zambezi .
problem for me solved 40 BCM pullets from him 10/15 for sure are keepers and 6 stunning cockerels
now I have a better progeny ,a base for my line all from the Zambezi even he had many fault ( M on his comb and recessive white ears lobe )

trust you chooks and help them to express them selves .you ll be amazed about they can do .

I will pen her up with her best son as soon as he is old enough. It will probably be winter or early spring before I see any chicks from them. She is one of my best layers also so she truly is a little gem of a hen, despite her flaws. She cranks those dark eggs out like a machine! Lol

I ll do just that . this will be your F line .
Apollo and #60 will be your LP line
keep this 2 line pure for a time been and work with they progeny to make your own line
this way you ll have 3 lines .

Aside from his tail, I adore Apollo. He is just so regal looking and he struts around like he is the king. lol. It is comical watching some of my hens that are used to living in the coop were I have Apollo and #60. They walk in the coop door when I am cleaning the water out like they own the place and Apollo chases them out trying to "love" them. Chickens are so funny to watch!

Sounds like a plan. My husband and I will hopefully get to work on wing banding a lot of the older grow outs this weekend so I can better keep track of them. Mostly just the cockerels I like and probably all of the pullets. Even if the pullets don't go in a breeding pen, I will still keep them as layers.

I was able to snap a few pics today after work. Pardon the mud in some of the pens in the background. It has been raining a lot and we are in he process of putting straw in the pens.

I will refer to my FRF pullets as #1, #2, and #3. These are daughters of Mud and Gretta (my original FRF birds).

And here is pullet #3. I have been referring to pullet #3 as "my little brown eyed girl." She is such a sweetie and loves to be handled and petted. She is darker with very little copper in her hackle, and her eyes are dark (probably even considered black) but she's the baby. Unless she has amazing type when she matures, she will likely just be sticking around as a layer.

Pullet #1 has some brown color to her eyes as well. The first two very much took after Gretta.

It is very difficult to get close to Gretta because she hates our dog, and he follows me around everywhere. These were the best I could get.

She is gorgeous! Breed to a BCM Rooster she will make some quality BCM and BLCMs. Well done Kayla!

Very pretty group of girls! Nice copper copper hackles, eyes and tail angles. First girl looks to have a nice short, closed tail. More pics when they get to point of lay.
