head 10/10
the rest of his body is not as great in this photo .look triangular to me not long and stretchy ( rectangular type . more like a brick on it side )
does he always hold him self like that ?

the back of the marans Rooster should be long ,flat ,wide all the way and tilted a little at the back .

I have been reading and rereading APA, French and Australian SOPs searching for answers to my questions about tails. Something that I read stuck in my mind, I recognized the body shape a long time ago when I knew much less than I do now but what I read made me understand the significance of it and why it is so hard to grasp. The Marans signature besides egg color is his shape. We all see pretty roosters, head held high, beautiful colors, beautiful tail feathers but that is not a Marans.

This is the ideal.

These diagrams help explain. I like Chooks mans explanation of a brick on its side. You don't want a little valley between the head and tail. You want a long gentle slope.

He is right..... he is a beauty. How do I get Black Birchens from my birds?

Another thing I look at is a flat chest. I know that is NOT going to give me the rectangular body.

I tell you how to get a black Birchen from your birds .play some music to them when they are incubating .hahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
I though you gave up on them and got ready of your silver cuckoo hens . they where the key to your project plus few years of breeding and selecting .

You posted the ideal to go along with my post..... Tobambez..... right?:love

Tobambezi has the ideal marans body type .well proportioned . every part of his body is well put together .
I find him a little taller on his feet .
need him for the Blue copper hens .they are giving me chooks with very short legs .too short . specially Bordeau and Beatrice .

Body type will score 40 point more than any other trait .if we showing
