International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I understand. You see him everyday, you know him and his faults. Now you can hatch a bunch with your new incubator so you have many to choose from.
I will give him another month and then ask for opinions from the thread. Hoping for a hard critique.

Took a few more pictures today.
Pure FRF pullet (Gretta's daughter)

Gretta and her daughter are hard to tell apart. The only way I can tell is by their bands. I am focusing on egg color in this FRF pen for now.

I have curly tail feathers too. Really bad on the straight up tails. Here are some more pics of FRF stock. Black bands were LP, Green bands GFF. I think it helps to see the parents.

Big high tail or not, that LP rooster's copper was stunning! It does help to see the parents. It definitely solidifies my theory that the FRF birds I have are more heavy on the GFF than LP. My FRF cockerel's color, looks more like the GFF cock bird (his grand sire) with the yellowish copper hackle. I just hope he doesnt pass the twisted tail feathers to his offspring if its genetic. I think I can correct his color by using his sister, Little Brown Eyed Girl, she has less copper than Gretta and Gretchen but what copper she does have is darker. I will try to get an updated pic of her today. She was already on the roost yesterday when I took those pics.

One thing to remember is that there was one LP rooster and I believe one LP hen. The rest were GFF. Now I am not 100% sure about the numbers but I do remember she had a low hatch on the LP eggs. So I think we are probably dealing more with GFF. Remember the picture I posted of both those roosters, they both had incredible color.

Right so odds are they are more GFF. At best half LP, depending on which cock bird was top dog.

Both roosters did have beautiful copper. And I am very satisfied with Gretta's egg color. She isnt much to look at but her eggs are lovely. Lol

Here is a pure LA pullet I have still free ranging. Her type and color is good, and her tail angle is one of my best (if it stays that low) but she does have a little white in her earlobes. You can barely see it in the last pic. I will probably still single mate her to Maximus and maybe even Apollo later on to experiment to see how the chicks look from each breeding. Both roosters have good red earlobes.

She is so pretty. The eggs I sent you are from just a few hens and two of them are my best. I'll try to take some pics. I can't tell you how beautiful the weather is here. 75 and perfect blue skies. I should be ashamed of myself sitting at this computer instead of being outside.

Yay that makes me so happy! :wee
It is in the 60's here today and cloudy so not much sun. I will take it though over the cold and rain. I miss 75 and sunny days! Its going to be a long winter. :hit
