International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

So far no more have pipped, there are 3 chicks total now, one of the chicks that had pipped hatched but the other two are still working on it.

The best I can see of the chicks through the window of the incubator they look to be very good quality. No white on their faces that I can see so far, one is still wet. Definitely no parasitic white at all. Their legs are feathered nicely. They are plump looking and vigorous, and they act like they are ready to come out of there. I am very satisfied with the chicks I have so far, quality is way more important than quantity. :love

I would be really disappointed if I bought hatching eggs and that was all I got. Is that how it normally is?

cockerel #2

@dvoice & @RedBanks

cockerel #1 is superior than cockerel #2 in this points =
- better comb
- better tail .thin and pointed ( what you guys need to produce pullet with a thin pointed tail as the SOP French require .
- better tail angle
- Elegance show quality ( carriage of the body very important )

Cockerel #2 is superior than cockerel #1 in this point =
- better body color ,rich uniform copper .
- thickness of the body

love to know exactly who much they weight .really ,not from the photos ?

#1 IS A SHOW QUALITY COCKEREL and a BREEDERS OF PULLETS WITH A STUNNING TAIL AND COMB .
#2 IS A BREEDER OF A WELL COLORED PULLETS BUT NOT A GREAT TAIL ( except if mated a hen/hens with a stunning tail - thin and pointed ) ,.He will lose point if shown for his comb and the Angle of his tail . EXcept if RedBank is a judge Hahahaaaaaaaaa!

for me if I had them I ll keep them both ,because in the breeding pen they will complete each other .they progeny will be a great start of show quality line when blended . Cockerel #1 progeny X cockerel #2 progeny = great BCM line
in this case cockerel #1 & #2 should be mated to the same hens , so they progeny will be related .half sibling ,great to work with .

chooks man

Marans eggs can be difficult to hatch anyway. I have never gotten good hatch rates on shipped eggs though. I get good hatch rates from my own eggs, around 85% or so. Shipping just does so much damage to the eggs. Chicks that do develop can be malpositioned in the egg and die because they cant reach the air cell to hatch. The cells and structures within the egg get shaken up during shipping.

Thats why I couldnt bring myself to pay so much for a dozen LP eggs because I just dont seem to have much luck with shipped eggs.

I will be satisfied with 5 chicks though if thats all that hatch. :love
