International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

when I start reading all the marans forum around the world ,I realized that a lot people are interested in breeding a proper marans chooks .so they post the photos of they chooks and the expert will tell them CULL THEM ALL and START OVER AGAIN .
I never heard any thing so stupid in my life before that .

I start commenting and telling peoples about what is good and bad about they chooks and how to work with not to cull them and end up with an empty chooks ward.

RedBank ask me to start a separate thread and she started this thread .all the credit goes to her .I was going to leave all the forum for good and work just with marans aspiran ( Monique Berte )

I learn from other too .
my Wheaten cockerel Morgan3 is on the chopping board at Marans aspirans . straight from the source ,no translation needed for me .

we share the same hobby . we love ours marans chooks and we want to breed them well . what wrong with that .

wanted to share my knowledge with you guys that all . we are not bossing each other around .no need for that .

I can't believe how fast these chicks are growing! :) They're about 6 weeks old now and absolutely delightful. We unfortunately did lose one of the black coppers about 2 weeks ago, but all the rest appear very healthy and happy.

It's hard to take pictures of them now, they won't stay still unless they're sitting on our laps, but here are a couple of recent ones. If my guesses are correct we have 3 males and 6 females of the black coppers; two are starting to get copper feathers on their backs. Also, one of the 'white' chicks is turning out to be not so white after all!

the person who has time to sit with they chooks ,they will be able one day to breed great chooks as well .

this guy is very rare .he has a Columbian pattern . a thin black flame at the bottom of this hackle and tips of his wings .
watch him for me please .
he could tern up to be a silver wheaten or a Columbian marans . I m working on this pattern my self

I hope we will do them justice, we spend as much time with them as we can, at least a couple of hours a day right now. They are mostly quite affectionate and run over looking for pets and to be held when they see us :)
I'll definitely keep a special eye on that little guy - if he is a Columbian, how do the genetics work? If I put him with a white hen would his markings be dominant?

those are from Monique . so the Columbian is her Blanc Hermine . only her and Emille Gurinel ( marans Syndicat ) have that variety .both of them developed this variety from scratch .

hold on to that cockerel with your dear life my friend .

PS the Columbian marans variety is actually the silver type of the Black tail buff marans . but no many people knows that .they think is a true Columbian like a Sussex chooks breed based on the Co genes .the marans columbian variety is based on Db restrictor gene .similar to a Co genes but gives a different result depend on what family genetic are based on .

let him do some more growing .when the time come I show you who to breed him .
do not mate him to the white .
I ll work it out with Monique Berte for you in what is the best way to work with him . .plenty of time .

That reminds me, I owe Monique a good Christmas present for all the enjoyment she has already brought to us! :D

Monique Berte deserve christmas present from all of us marans lover ,for what she have done for the breed in the last 35 years .
she had to battle it out with many stiff people s . who want to change the marans standard ,because they can not longer produce a descent chooks , so they want to cut corner .
she stood her ground .so proud of her . need more woman like her in this world

I'm the one who should thank you! If it wasn't for this thread and all the information you share I would never have met Monique in the first place!

we are here to help each other to have or to breed a great correct french marans .
we are not here to prove each other wrong and argue all the time like other places I know .
