International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

That makes no sense! So the SOP calls for lacing. The SOP goes against genetics. So it's like the Adams family where genetics don't apply. So Don't go by SOP and we want either the hen or rooster to have lacing. The other one clean breast with no lacing. Did I get that right???:lau:gig

for breeding ,YES .
when you pair the breeders only one of them should have the lacing.so they progeny will be correct .or what the SOP call for .

the SOP people do not take decision based on genetic .they take decision based on they taste .what they like
the French bred the marans with feathered shanks and the English bred the feathers out of the shank s nothing to do with genetic here .

we are breeders .we have to keep all the genome of the true breed in our pens .so can produce any type the SOP want . we don t have to make all our chooks SOP type .we will lose most of the genetic make up in our flock .

the grains are stuck in her crop because empty . worm rice will help her get ready of the grains .
Apple CV is good too to kill any bacteria in her crop .
when the chooks are sick a wet food is better for them than grains .

her crop is not empty. she eats and poops but there is still something in her crop, either grains or stones. for the last days she has been eating soft food only.

she had mashed potatoes (made with ghee and milk) and boiled beef for dinner. she ate like a pig. lets see if this will help empty her crop. every day she wants to eat different things., day 1: eggs, day 2: layers mash, day 3: fresh olives and sesame seeds, day 4: some olives, potatoes and beef. tomorrow I will give her rice with beef soup. I hope she will be alive in the morning.

sorry to hear that .
me I deal with a extreme heat and you guys dealing with a extreme cold . poor marans chooks .they have to adapt to all those different climatic condition . they are hardy .

Guess you guys should breed the rose comb marans .US strain and I should breed the necked neck marans OZ strain .never mind about the French SOP ,Hahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!

That would be really cool! There is a breeder here in the US that has created rose combed Cream Legbars. I think that is just genius! It would definitely be a plus not having to deal with frost bitten combs every winter. And the naked necks sound cool too! Ive always wanted NN's. :)

I like pretty things. Naked necks just don't appeal to me.

a same as the French SOP .
the Birchen ( silver black ) is accepted by the French. they are working on the Blue .

the lacing on the upper part of the chest of the birchen is very important .

to keep the lacing only minimum and at the upper part of the chest . we need only the rooster to be laced not a hen . the hen should have only silver hackle.

if the hen has a lacing on her upper part of her chest than the rooster should be a black breasted . not lacing .balancing the breeding pen to produce a correct progeny .

Thanks for the correction / clarification ChooksMan!

I feel that showgirl chickens (NN silkies) are just about the ugliest designer chicken that's in fashion right now......
But that's just this girl's opinion.

I actually realy like the showgirls but can't stand the look of turkens. Stripper showgirls can be a bit ugly but the ones with the beards and bowties are cute :)

isn't she beautiful?

unfortunately she has never started laying. she hatched in march or april. is there any hope that she will lay? she had some health issue, not as bad, and lice too. the other 2 pullets that are about a month or two younger than her lay.

I think she is stunning .

I m going to add to them the feathered shanks ,Mass and Rose comb. I recon they will be the best in show .

I know RedBanks you are going to disagree with me .but wait tell you ll see my creation .they have to be pure white too and Silver based .
