International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

RedBanks,

Tony2 has excellent color (best trait of the Rooster) - the red shoulder should fill in as he matures - and nice eye color. He’s a breeder just for those two traits. His tail is full but the angle is gon8ng in the right direct. Breed him to large, well colored hens with a long, flat back and good tails to bring the tail angle down on his male progeny. You’re progressing in the right direction.

Keith

agree with you my friend.

Ah I see now what you where trying to say about Tony2 .very high tail . I got this wrong .
he does not look long and rectangular like I though he ll be . shame .

I still take him for the comb ,that is for sure .

I knew if I posted pics you would finally agree. I would never argue with the Maestro but I do not like the way he is built. He has no back. He is a triangle. Just nice from the neck up. He is the Kelloggs corn flakes Marans. He reminds me of his Grandsire. So do I have your permission to cull him? As you see I have some that might be better waiting in the wings. I can hang on to him but I don't know why I would unless it is just to make sure there is another rooster worth keeping in this new batch.

RedBanks,

Cockerel #1 (1st Pic, foreground) is well colored, nice eyes, well colored ear tufts, nice long back, good tail angle, tail seems a little long (hopefully he’ll grow into it), and good mass.

Cockerel #3 (1st Pic, Cockerel in far back on the right) - This Cockerel has an excellent tail (angle, length, fullness). He also has excellent type (rectangular, slightly tilted to the rear), good mass, nice long flat back (reason for his tail) and good eye color. How is his plumage color? Breed to a well colored hens with good tails, long flat back will reinforce the tail trait.

Take Care,
Keith

I like the cockerel #3 too .I found him well balanced .well put together .

@RedBanks .good birds .

I prefer the cockerel on the right ,behind the large one .
I can see ,he is a little smaller but well put together ,every thins is well place .
I like the way his stand ( very important to how the chooks stand .Elegance and strength )
I like his comb small doesn t over power his head .well proportioned
love his tail .small ,thin and pointed ,great Angle..

late maturing type .

the cockerel on the left ,a small one has a good body shape and great tail .I think is the best tail in all the cockerel .

I did not plan on keeping the one in the front. He just happened to come close enough for me to take a picture. I have a favorite and will post the pics. I know that all of these cockerels have something to offer but space is limited. I do want to give them more time so I will only cull the obvious.

We have eggs!!
Of course I was traveling at the time so I missed the big day, but my husband let me know. We have 4 now so far, pictured here with a store bought egg for comparison; looks like a pretty good colour :)View attachment 1298197

very nice

The cockerel in the front and the second pic are the same cockerel. I like him but he is not my favorite. Maybe second pic. I agree about the well balanced smaller cockerel you like in the background of the other pic, he is very nice.

I believe the last one on the right is my favorite. I was not taking serious pics. The first one on the right and the one in front are culls.
