International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

^^^ I can't wait to hear the feedback. Not sure why but I really like the red boy. How old are they again? Sounds like green may not fit your program atm. What are the combs like on your girls? I seem to remember reading Roos aren't totally influential in offspring. Looks like Red might go a bit far back on the head. My Chester looked pretty thin till I got rid of the other ROOmate. Now he's a heady dude with much better shape so I don't discount smaller boys right off.

ETA- forgot to say what a beautiful stock you have!

Thank you! All of these guys hatched right before Christmas I believe. None of the pullets are laying yet but should start soon. Their Combs aren't perfect. I don't see any side springs or anything but they seem like they may be a little toothy.

This is the last one

Yellow boy. This boy has a coronation comb.

It seems hard to find or get a perfect comb. And then you could be like me and get one - but winter steals it. Chesters was perfect but he's an over colored roo. 2 of my pullets appears to be under colored so I'm hoping for balancing out.

I really like your purple boy too. Red has folds in the waddle which I remember Chooks remarking against. You can't get it all. It's a puzzle to think about what your working with and how to pair. I guess the puzzle is why I play here. I can't wait to start but beside Chester I only have babies as of yet.

ok guys, I finally managed to get pictures of all my boys. Some were more cooperative than others but I did my best. I have them banded different colors so I'm going to give each of them their own post with pictures. I'm looking to choose one to be a main breeder, one as a backup and a friend of mine wants one for his flock (not to breed but still wants a half decent one. There are 6 boys total. Here are a couple pictures of the 4 girls I'm going to be working with.

Your girls are stunning! Very nice mass, toplines, and tails! Love their copper also! You have done really good with them! :)

green boy. This boy is personally my favorite boy. My only concern is the shafting and coloring on his chest combined with my already well colored pullets, producing an over-colored next gen.

You have a good eye! He is my favorite as well. You are correct though, mating a cockerel with an overcolored breast to well colored hens will throw a lot of overcolored offspring. Maybe single mate him to your darkest hen. Definitely keep him! His type is great and his tail angle is nothing to let go to waste. Very nice bird!

I am going to swoon over this bird some more! He is absolutely devine!! I really like him a lot. His bottom line is excellent.. very hard thing to achieve. Very well balanced. His color is rich and beautiful. I would give my right pinky toe for this bird, true story! Lol. Aurora, he is looking superb. :)

Looking at the last two pics his comb looks great. What is the coronation? I had one with obvious side sprigs and thought that was a coronation. Am I just not seeing it with this one?

It's very difficult to see it in these pictures but I tried to zoom in on it and took screen shots. He has two, perfect little side sprigs opposite each other at the back of his comb.

Thank you! I'm nowhere near confident enough yet in my ability to judge the boys and choose one. I honestly didn't realize how great his type looked until today when I was focusing on him for pictures lol.
