International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

So it's approaching 100F and we go pondside. Our favorite dog seems to have an issue with us swimming and more than nipped Steve. I got nothin at the house but I have blue cote. This one prolly needed stitches but o'wells. Happy trails! The dog hasn't come out from her hides hole.

That dog would get a bullet if she were mine. Those bite puncture wounds needs to see a doctor. Dog bites can get infected.

Ouch! Yes, probably needs stitches and antibiotics. Should go get that checked out. Praying for a quick healing.

They typically dont stitch dog bites because stitching the wound closed would trap the infection inside. The wounds have to be allowed to heal from the inside out, kept clean and dry, and a course of antibiotics started.

I would think they would probably stitch and put a drain tube in. Depending on how big of hole. The top one looks pretty big. That's what they did to our bog anyways. Definitely needs to see a doctor.

I hear y'all but Maggie is punished enough. We have hearding dogs and they nip. Not us usually... but they keep bears and coyotes and weasels away and guard our flocks. Never nip at us but apparently when our feet leave the ground they think we are in danger they get excited. Maggie hasn't come out of her hidey hole since she realized what she did. She isn't ill natured and at 5 yrs this is a first. Blue cote and hoping for the best. I'd be more worried about the pond water than the dog slobber. We will see...

Sometimes dogs just play too ruff and its not a aggressive thing. One time we had a German shepherd. She jumped up and when she came down it slit our about 4 month old puppies nose. I pray you heal well. If it looks like it's starting to get infected. Please go to the Doctor.

Welp. Little chooks are 10 weeks old. I decided to let everyone freerange together. Chester saw the new cockerel from about 30 ft away tweaked his head sideways, then full speed tore at him. I think he musta been going 20mph. They tumbled for another 30 ft and Steve says to me "you better get on that". Pretty sure Chester wants him dead. It was nasty.

My old roo wasn't nearly as mean to chester when he was a cockerel. I want both Roos so I guess PITA here I come. Someon please tell me these boys can work it out. I'd so much rather freerange daily.

FYI: there is a new thread in this forum about someone hatching a white chick from eggs that were only blue and black marans. I don't know enough about it but am hoping someone knowledgeable replies :)
Here is one of my most recent blue splash marans chick

Splash chicks can result when breeding two blues together 25% chance. The splash Gene bleaches black, so a bird with one splash gene and one black gene will be blue

So is the rooster Blue Copper or Black Copper? If the rooster is black it is probably recessive white. If the rooster is Blue Copper and hens are Blue Copper then it's a splash. Please correct me if I am wrong. I haven't seen the post.

hot pepper on the wound prevents infection and helps healing. hope he will get well soon.
