Thank you! It was a bummer. I have three really nice white pullets though. I may get some White hatching eggs. My last couple of shipments of eggs where scrambled. Praying these do better. My Birchen and Blue Birchen shipped out today. They should be here Wednesday. Praying they all make it.

Do you remember scflock? (may have been from the Am thread?) My eggs/flock came from him. He’s just doing black and blue copper Marans now, got out of the Ams.

Thank you! I remember him. I hope he is doing well. I couldn't remember what name he switched to. I got out of Ameraucanas also. I just love my Marans and decided to concentrate on them.

It's not much but it works for me, this winter i'l be clearing some property and building 4- 25'x50 grow out pens and I'll use my current setup strictly for breeding. I salvaged everything i use to build, except the chicken wire. There's no rule saying its got to be pretty. I just keep building on to it as i need.

it is pretty too. I might go more simple. no floor (just soil).

If worse comes to worse and you cant find a white cockerel, just single mate whatever color cockerel you have to those white pullets and mark those chicks as split for white. Best I remember, all of them will be split for white and carry the gene. You can then mate one of those sons back to the original white hens. Once you start producing more white chicks you can then cull ALL the split birds. Dont keep them for breeding in your black/blue copper line. You can then mate a white cockerel from those chicks you produce back to the original white hens. Voila!

If you wanted to keep a few splits around just for emergency reasons, make sure you mark/band them well so you wont accidentally use one in your black/blue copper or birchen, which ever line cockerel you choose to work with. You dont want to accidentally breed recessive white into your other lines.

Sharing updated pictures of Edward, my favorite cockerel. He will be 7 months old on the 20th. He isnt perfect by any means but he has no white so far and he is nice and wide. He has a halo and his back should slope downward to the tail, and his tail has gotten higher than I had hoped but he is lovely otherwise I think. I will mate him to long backed, low tailed females and hope for improvements next year.

Pardon all the weeds, the run was empty for a while and the weeds grew up. He is penned temporarily with some Legbar hens and Queen.

I get a lot of lemons too, most especially with chickens. You have to take the lemons that comes along with it to get your lemonade.

It wouldnt matter. The white will completely cover all the color. No copper will show through. The recessive white is not like splash coloring, it doesnt allow color to show through. Recessive white is pure snow white.
