@chickengr

here the hens I like a lot .you should separate them and hatch from them not the other 3 hens .
my favorite hens .
1- the one standing by the rooster side gorgeous large comb and impressive chest love her head .
2-hen next to the tire facing away . great body type and tail too.
3-the 3 hens on the far back standing up right . one next to the fence is gorgeous .

love the rooster body color ..I think he and those 5 hens will throw some nice progeny to select from .
the hens have type and comb
the rooster has great body color and marking .

the other 3 hens with a bent comb and featherless bottom no good to breed for the comb from them .maybe some other traits .like eggs colors or some thing else .

you have enough to breed a good chooks .

thank you. you cannot see in the photos but all of the have s-shaped combs.

unfortunately 3 of my beauties are full siblings with my boy. I will not take chances as they have already been inbred.

I finally got a hen with straight comb. looks good to me and at least she is the best I could get. she is black but I hope my boy will fix it. I will take a photo later.

impressed my friend .you have a larger flock of BC marans .few large correct hens in there .I don t know why you keep stressing about the comb .I can see you have few hens with a gorgeous comb or close to it .I think 4 of you hen are great type to .
it is very hard to comment on them when they interring the molting stage .

the rooster has a nice body color .rich red .need to be separated from the hen s .they need a rest .he too .

at the moment I don't have room to separate them. but as it is getting colder he is less interested in mating.

Tuesday November the 27 I m going to pick my first flock of marans .young flock about 20 of them or more ,7 to 16 weeks old .all sort of marans .

this weekend going to my friend farm and build a coop for them .he is looking forward to have some chooks .

looking forward to it .
some fertile wheaten marans eggs too from 2 different breeder .

chooks man

Exciting! Can’t wait to see what you get.

@Auroradream26

those are good looking BC marans hens . great head , combs and eyes.
the one on the right ,stuning comb ,strong ,small .refine ,correct number of point ,great lobe not touching the neck . love her deep and wide chest .. great wattles round ,small free from any split or folding .her son s will have great head and comb . they ll be good looking .
the hen next to it has more copper for sure but her comb is good but not great .too thin and point are not refine . her chest is not as deep as the first hen.

chooks man

Thank you! The on the right is one of me favorites. I'm not worried about her having less copper since my boy has extra to share.

@Auroradream26

love the rich red copper of this rooster .. he has a stunning marking too .shame a white feather on his tail .could be dealt with later .

this guy mated to my favorite hen ,the one with a nice comb . will throw properly colored progeny and great comb .100%

I ll breed him just for rich red copper .well uniform

chooks man

PS did he won ?

I think I will put him with the two best hens first to get a head start on the best babies. Hopefully, I can breed out that white. He was one the only ones that didn't have white in his wings too. It would've been nice if I hadn't lost my best room couple months ago.

Yes, he did win. For a long time, that lavender ameraucana would chase him off every morning. Once he stood his ground though, he took over leadership. So far, he's being good and fair.

@Auroradream26

sorry the hen on the right walking has actually a good tail shape and angle .
you tell me how she hold it at most of the time ? up or low?

chooks man

I believe that is the one hen that does have a good tail. I'll be working a lot with her to bring tail angles down.

Thank you so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge and guiding those of us who aren't quite there yet.
