after going through 150 chicks ,how they stand up to body type test .
here the result .
Best pairs =
Stallone X Baby Blue =big chicken correct body type and size ,3 cockerels and 2 pullets .legs well feathered .nice combs
BM X Dalakhania .= big ,wide and well chuncky .2 boy BL and 2 pullets BC /BLC. well feathered leg . nice combs .
BM X Unicorn = big ,strong and correct ,lovely combs .2 cockerels 2 pulets. well feathered legs.
BM X Shiva s = supper wide @ the shoulder, correct body type ,big and strong .well feathered legs.the comb is not they strong points .
St X Kako = well correct . sublime Dominant white double genes ,pure white .3 cockerels and 3 pullets.
Arnold X Astrology = correct ,stuning 3 cockerels and 4 pullets.
Arnold X Missu = the largest chicks ,the look a week older than all others ,plus they are correct too .2 cockerels 6 pullets .
BM X Gazelle = correct big chicken .
Big Blue X Gazelle = strong ,big and correct .

I ll be keeping only those proven pairs for the next year breeding ,the rest they have to go by the end of January .need room for the young stock .

Chooksman, I would be lost without you. I will need your help for sure. So to make sure on my plan of action. The 2 blue pullets in with blaze? Mom hen and 2 BC in with Nimbus? We have talked about so much I don't remember. Sorry! I will try and get updated pictures of the BC pullets today.

they are very nice and have a corrct conformation . they are long and wide .nice tail @good angle .
do no breed from them tel they reach 10 months old . they have prenty of time to grow and mature .
turn up to be a good score .cost you a little bit ,but the good side of it ,you will no need to bay Marans chooks in the future and you don t have to cull a lot ,because you have very nice base to work with .
keep it simple and record every thing .you will end up with a great BC and BLC lines .

I definitely need to learn how to cull earlier. Very interesting post.

Test mating help reduce the culling .
when we test mate we only need to hatch few chicks to see the result .
when we breed we hatch a lot chicks from a proven pair .not from all the hens in the pen ,bad practice .
Get to know who is laying what and you will see how breeding will become very eazy and fun .

I m breeding my future breeders ,so I have to select early and well .expecting a lot of chicks 600/700 this breeding season .6 groups .

I think Nimbus. That would be my guess.

Thank you chooksman! Yes, It ended up $250 for the pair. They where $60 each plus $130 for shipping. That was a lot of money. Most of my other started birds where $30 each not counting shipping. It was worth it. I at least got a good start on my Coppers. The whites where a little disappointing. Hard to cull whites and Birchen when you spend that much. BC and BLC have always been my favorite though. I am well happy with it all.

All 5 of the houses have been cleaned out and new straw in nests. Just in time! Temperature lows where13 degrees night before last and 19 degrees last night. Way too cold for October. I put heatlamps in two of the houses. Hope to save my roosters from frostbit combs. It probably won't work but have to try.
