International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Queen had a white primary feather that persisted after her adult molt, so the white came from her. He didn't have the feather as a cockerel, but it showed up as he molted this year. This was his first adult molt. I will be putting him with Duchess (Duke's sister from Harvey). I'm not sure it would be wise to cross full brother-sister (Prince x Malika) because of the white. I haven't noticed any white on Malika but I haven't handled her since her molt.

Ah so he did not has a white as a cockerel .the white just appeared after his first molt .so he is a carrier of the gene @ late age . bad but is a good new too .he is not a full parasitic white carrier ,if mated to hens free from any white ,he will throw a lot progeny without it ,some will have it late .
what we see now after his first molt .is a true pattern .

I just think the beefier ones look best and would definitely show better. I will have to choose wisely the ones I keep for breeding. I have been watching them to see which ones impress me the most. The brown eyed cockerel may end up being a cull because I know that is a trait that is passed greatly from the male. I also will likely cull the high tailed cockerel as well. I have come to far to back peddle in the tail department.

@kfelton0002 . they all have a correct body type .Duke over your hens produced magic .you need to know him better and how to work with him .don t get lost in selecting from his cockerels .take your time .it is your chance now to select recording to they genetic make up .

If you need to offload another cream cockerel, I could use some new blood in the cclb pen.

I have one Cream legbar cock bird, 2 cream/crele colored cockerels, and 2 white legbar cockerels free ranging right now. I will need to cull those down. I could part with a white and/or a cream/crele cockerel if you wanted to make the trip. The whites are recessive so when mated to a cream they throw cream/crele.

Here is what the cream/crele colored cockerels look like. This is the one I think Im keeping. The other is nearly the same, just less macho for now. They are both split to white.

The white/crele blood I have infused into the creams have darkened up their barring beautifully. The creams looked very washed out.

first I have to say ,I need photos from the back of this cockerel the front too .
he is very interesting guy very .almost complete ,few thing here and there , nothing major . the only thing is really missing is his plumage type .a little loose or just he is relaxing grooming him self .only 1 photo of him .
the hallo on his hackle is minimum ,and as a breeder he has more to offer .he is one generation close to pure copper hackle no hallo .

he has all the qualities . love to see more photos of him .

I think Duke is best suited mated to Queen so that will be a singled mated pen next year. I would love to put one of Duke's cockerels over Malika, then mate offspring from those two matings together in the future.

I want the cockerels to be mature enough to truly be able to see them before I cull. That's why I've held onto them so long. They're getting there, but they are driving my husband crazy. If you can see definite culls, let me know so I can take them out of the running. I don't really need to keep more than 2-3.

I can get more photos when I'm off work again. I snapped these pics today in a hurry because my life is chaos lately. This was taken after feeding time so he was more relaxed. I'm glad you think he would make a good breeder so far pending further evaluation. He appears to be my favorite as well. He is still an underdog and not very sure of himself yet. Not crowing so the way he carries himself may change as he reaches maturity.
