International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

How do you keep track of the chicks in the Incubator? I put in separators to keep them apart. They tend to hop over just as soon as I remove the lid to take them out. Hard to keep track of everyone. I will only have 6 or 7 to keep track of though. I need to learn the eggs but if they look alike that will be a problem. I will probably do two hatches. I am looking at about 25 chicks from each pen. I am hoping to start hatching in march.

25 chicks of each pen is very good .especialy now you are only working with coppers familly . enough chicks to select from .

my hatcher are divided into 38 compartement 6 eggs in each 84 total or less .I have to find some photos for you .

Wow that is a lot of chicks! Congrats!! Hopefully there are a lot of nice breeder birds in the lot. I am enjoying getting a break from chicks right now. We hatched and raised chicks nearly all year up until late summer and chick season will be back in full swing before I know it here.

Been prepping birds for the Appalachian Classic on saturday. I will be taking 3 Marans pullets (I added one to the lineup), an OEG cockerel, and an OEG pullet so fingers crossed. :)

I have been given my chooks a lot yougurt to drink to help them deal with a hot wind .cooled down a lot last couples of night .day still hot and windy .

Yogurt is good for them, lots of probiotics. It had been very cold here. It was 12 degrees F yesterday morning, in the 20's this morning. I am not a fan of the cold. :(

Try hatching in plastic tupperware with holes drilled in the sides, or try zippered mesh laundry bags to keep different groups of eggs separated. Thats what I use and they work great.
