At least you got quite a few chicks from DW and other good hens. If you single mate or trio mate him in close quarters with the two hens you want him to breed he would have a higher likelihood of breeding them. It would be worth a shot. Don't give them a lot of room. A 4x4 feet pen for a pair or 4x6 or 4x8 for a trio would be good. He wouldn't have the opportunity to pick favorites that way.

I m happy with him .you can t win all the time .you win some and you lose some .way of life .
Dalakhania,Unicorn and Shiva s are the most unique hens in the farm .he bred 2 and missed one .no bad .
Unicron is a Red Pyle .mean golden salmon with one copy of dominant white gene . her progeny are hal whit other half are salmon . producing correct big and well rounded chicks .
Shiva s is Solid Black unique too and rare .big solid type .her chicks a lot off them with DW are super nice .huge and correct .

Dalakhania next year I will have better cockerels for her .she is throwing long nice pullets but a cockerel are a little short on they back . need to be matted to a long flat back rooster .like by import BLC cockerel . he will be perfect for her .to produce a correct Splash cockerel .to start her line .
I though DW will do that .I was wrong .he did forget to read the sript. hahahaaaaaaaa

I am already working on arranging single mated pens for them and I plan on putting Malika and Perfect in conditioning stalls to let them rest a few weeks at least before breeding season starts.

give them more rest .don t rush thing up .you are breeding for quality .over all condition of the hens and the size of the eggs is very important .no way around it .
if the pullets are not ready than breed Malika/Queen first with DA that will give a pullets a time to fully grow . than romove the hens and breed the pullet . 2 set of 2 hens/pullets and 3 cockerels . 6 trios combination breeding in 4 stages . straight forward .20 chicks of each pair will give oyu 120 chicks roughlly high quality pairing.breeding .
Hens .Queen and Malika
Pullets . Perfect and nice hackle one I like the one you showed .
Cockerel .Prince .Dark Angel and Vortex . that is your breeding flock if I was working with your bird .
I will give Duke a rest and I will test Duches with all 3 cockerels to see how goes without interfering with a main breeding program .your hens line .

@Chooks man
what protein levels are you feeding at hatch and how long before you reduce protein in feed?

22% protein .from hatch tell 8/10 weeks .available 24/7 want them to grow big and fast ,they need it later .
18% pullets pallets plus introduce wheat grain into they diet slowly .free ranging ,large space ,they will find other thing to eat .grass etc...............

Vortex from rear .look @ the width of his rear .his daughter will lay super large eggs . look @ his lancet ,ne is not even a year old and they are so long and lush ,imagine when he is fully matured .
forme if his tail gorgeous .I know the Angle is high but the tail is correct . So there is only the angle of the tail to worry about not the shape/type .perfect
;ool @ his legs meduin size ,think ,straight ,well feathered and well spassed .
look @ his comb ,faultless
look @ his hackle rich with copper well covering the shoulders .Ears Tufts
look @ the width of his shoulders and rear .wide all way through .

how you did not see all those gorgeous qualities my dear friend .HIGH TAIL ANGLE IS A CHEAP PRICE TO PAY FOR THOSE PRICELESS QUALITIES.

hope he will do well in a breeding pens . good luck .

Thanks for all the advice! If the females he is mated to have correct tail angle, what will be the volume of chicks he will produce with high tails vs correct tails? I know that my high tailed blue copper hen produces mostly high tailed progeny despite being mated to Duke who has a nice tail.

I did see all of Vortex's good qualities, that's why I initially had him up to show. He was the nicest looking bird on the yard and was the biggest, very wide. He was up for a little over a month until I noticed his tail angle getting high and that is when I threw him out into the fenced in area with the dogs. I just didnt want to backpeddle with tail angles and was hesitant about using him because I have struggled with tail angles so long. However if he will help me improve color, it will be worth it to use him as long as he doesn't throw all high tailed offspring. That would be a nightmare for sure.

They look so good! Now you've got me getting chick fever. Fortunately I will be done with my BSN classes before hatching season begins so I can spend a lot of time with them. :)
