International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I hope he doesn't get aggressive. I can handle a mild aggression but when they get to the point of being nuts I do away with them. For example, my little show OEG cockerel is my best buddy most of the time and is very tame. Every now and then he gets a wild hair and tries to fight me. I just grab a hold of him as soon as he bucks up on me and pet him and carry him around a few minutes. That settles him down and lets him know I'm still the boss. Maybe try that with your cockerel. He thinks he is big man on campus now that he rules the pen himself unrivaled.
When he grows spurs I am cutting them. Then it won't be so bad if he gets me.

Here are a few new pictures of Perfect. She is smaller than her sisters and is developing a cushion on her back. I think her size is a big drawback to her as a breeder. She may not be a good option after all. I will weigh her when I get time.

Kicking them never works for me. Then it was a battle every time I went in the pen. We ended up butchering them.

My Marans never get aggressive to the point of inflicting injury. They are too heavy to get off the ground much to do harm. It's the Games I get weary of. Sometimes we have to go in their pens at night to collect eggs because the brood cocks get so mean. No kicking the Games doesn't work because they aim much higher than just your boot. But for the Marans it is sufficient if they get a little aggressive. I've only had like 2 aggressive Marans so they dont crop up too often.
