International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I'm glad you like her. She didnt look like much up until recently, and I didnt expect her to turn out well but she is starting to blossom. Hopefully her tail dont get sky high. She likes to stay away from the main flock and is a loner. She is the only decent looking blue copper Ive raised this year. There are a couple youngsters free ranging still so the jury is out on them.

high tail is no where to be seen in this pullets.

I am hoping to breed toward the gentle slope of the back downward from neck to tail. Its a personal pet peeve of mine when the back slopes upward toward the tail like an orphington. It isnt a major thing, just something I would like to improve upon.

Perfect is definitely on the small side. I don't think she will reach 2.7 kg but I will weigh her and see as soon as I can.

the marans hen her back should be flat not tilting toward the back .
what do you call cushion is it actually loose type feather fluffy around the base of the tail .

if she is not 6 months old than I will not expect her to weight 2.7Kg . but that is a minimum weight at adult .

I was just looking through the SOP and found this. It looks like my SW cockerel has both split wing and slipped wing. I'm assuming these two must go hand in hand as both of his wings are split and slipped. Just wanted to share for the learning purposes of this group.

A wing in which the primary flight feathers hang below the secondaries when the wing is closed: (This condition is often allied with split wing, in which primaries and secondaries show a very distinct segregation in many breeds of bantams)
Your post got me looking too. Here’s another photo and description of slip wing.

Thank you Chooksman! I just wanted to make sure. I guess I always worry as they get older something is going to pop out and be bad. I will probably worry till he is st least 1 1/2. His dad's color changed so much after a year. I am really hoping no white pops out on any of them. I guess time will tell.

@marchick and @kfelton0002 .you both worry too much I think .let chooks express them selves .you have to look @ what they have now as good traits .not to worry what they will have in the future .nature know that ,we don t .so we don t have to worry all the time about every trait .
enjoy the beauty they are showing now .in this moment . not what you think may happen .

I see a lot of white foot feathers in HM birds. I have at least one Hen left out there with white foot feathers. I seen a lot of over colored and mossy chicks also. I am hoping they where from a different hen then Blaze and Nimbus came from. I always worry about the recessive stuff popping out. I guess we will see next year what they produce. I can't wait.

you worry too much . you don t have too .
every thing could be fixed ,so why worry about . let it be ,we deal with stuff when does appear not before .

Well the recessive genes are there, I've already encountered a few of them in just one generation. You just have to look over your birds with a fine toothed comb and cull birds that show undesirable traits. White foot feathers are not really too big of a deal. Bev Davis claims they can be caused from damage to the feather follicle as the bird scratches in the dirt and stuff. If you don't see white anywhere else, especially after the first molt then you're good.

if the white feathers appear in the first 18 month .than it is genetic .
if the white appear after the big molt 18 months then could be related to other thing .like stress ,sickness etc,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

white any where is bad news .

I could never grow out so many chicks. One I don't have the pens, room or money. Plus I could never choose from so many. Bravo! I love them.

I m thinking a lot about a gorgeous chooks I may have one day in the future .that is what keeping me going .
plus the sound of the hatching chicks make me happy .
