International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Is my black copper marans chick part cuckoo marans? She doesn't have the head spot and no other bars on her but can't figure what else would be the cause. She's supposed to be full bcm and looked it until she developed the stripe. Maybe the white will grow out at molt? Please tell me what you think

she is dark cuckoo hatch out of BCM crossing .it is a reason her head spot was not there ,not pure cuckoo .

Thanks for your response. That's really disappointing. She was sold as a pure bcm. The breeder I got her from doesn't advertise that she even owns cuckoo marans, let alone that they are pinned together with her bcm. Does this mean she'll likely not lay the dark eggs?

Okay guys,
Im on page 1105. Im slowly getting caught up and taking notes as i go.

But....I have a question that needs to be resolved before i can go any further.

I am building my first serious fbcm foundation flock. I just hatched out 8 eggs from the pictured flock and want to know if this is a good group of parents to start with. They are not good pictures and the only ones i have. I dont own them. Just bought the eggs from them. Should i buy another dozen eggs to hatch?

To my beginner eye, they seem to have promise but i need your opinions please.

I tried to go from head to feet, type, top and bottom line on this rooster but am still not confident enough. Awful pictures.sorry.

cuckoo is a dominant gene ,has to be there in the first place ,marans or not ,
I have a single barring on BCM chicks but was brown colour not grey .give a few weeks and see what happen .
laying dark egg ? I don t know , not that simple .

very good BCM .love all rooster and hen ,very good line ,well worked for sure .some body was doing they job properly ,
stunning and complete body pattern , copper uniform and rich ,
gorgeous eggs colour too .
i m impressed ,
if you can get more of these eggs ,go for it ,money well spent . you can start your own line from this flock .
group the eggs recording to they shape .size and color ,each hen lay different type of eggs . if you can get eggs from 3/4 hens ,mark they eggs and chicks hatched from them , when they mature you can work with them as half sibling , you will get good result . you don t want to add any thing to that line tell you have a large number and bred it for few years as pure .
good luck .

@Punkybrewster

here what I see from the photo .
Body type and carriage =correct , long wide ,rectangular shape ,a little higher from the front . rustic type . nice sloppy back .
Head = correct ,good eyes .
comb =good size ,good number of point well balanced ,lobe well lifted . but the blade is dented { between the start of the points and the bottom of the comb } love to see how does look from the other side .
Neck = strong and good length , well colored .gorgeous copper ,well uniform with the back and lancet .
shoulder a little higher ,very good and well colored .rich red ,full pattern no papering
Tail = great shape just a little higher , should not pass 60 D max .
leg= well feathered ,good color .
plumage type .correct well tight to the body .
plumage color ,correct pure black, free from any parasitic white or extra copper .
wings .correct held well close to the body .

I think he is very good .few problems ,fixable nothing DQ .

Ahhhh. Thank you. I bought the eggs to hatch before i had the knowlege.

Im glad i did. Many of the darker eggs are more round. Almost cant tell which end is what. Thats okay right? I dont want light long eggs?

If that is correct, i will buy some more and hatch only the darkest round eggs?

Thank you so much for helping me. I cant wait to join in conversation more. Gotta finish reading about 1000 more posts...

Oh of course, I'm not doubting what you said. Im just more frustrated that the breeder sold her as a pure bcm when in fact she's not
