International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Ahhhh. Thank you. I bought the eggs to hatch before i had the knowlege.

Im glad i did. Many of the darker eggs are more round. Almost cant tell which end is what. Thats okay right? I dont want light long eggs?

If that is correct, i will buy some more and hatch only the darkest round eggs?

Thank you so much for helping me. I cant wait to join in conversation more. Gotta finish reading about 1000 more posts...

dark round is the one we looking for , the darker end is always the upper part { air sac}
good luck .

I suppose that's true, but shouldn't a breeder of a specific breed make sure that kind of thing wouldn't happen? Idk, maybe it's impractical. I guess I just feel slightly skeptical as she tried to convince me that the brown mossy bcm I originally was given is normal. Maybe she's just not that careful with her chickens. The other 2 breeds I got from her I'm very satisfied with though. 🤷‍♀️ You live and you learn I guess.

My chick to 12 week pen is done. Wall and door is complete. Best part is we just used scrap wood and it didn't cost us anything not one penny. I still have clean up and level out the dirt. We have old rabbit hutches that we are going to repair for young chicks. After the first two hatches are old enough to not need light they are going into the old Birchen pen. There are three pens separated by hardware cloth in one house which is actually our woodshed.
