This thread is dedicated to Black Copper Marans worldwide. All are welcome..... those with their very first BCMs .... the experienced breeders and everyone in between. We can share our experiences, knowledge and love of the breed.
So I'm a total newbie Marans owner because I got a surprise pullet. My husband picked her out and she was completely mis-labelled in her bin. I'm so excited to hopefully see dark brown eggs when she starts laying! I've been trying to look up what she should look like. Not that we want to show her or breed for purebred or anything, but what is desirable hen coloration? The thing I noticed in pictures is there is a lot of variation of the color on their head and neck. It seems like she has a lighter brown color and in a larger area than most of the photos I have found of hens. Here's her photos. She is about 15 weeks old. Thanks!
Oh, and when should I expect her first egg?

My 4 BC cockerels out in the pen today. They didn't have leg bands on yet. I did go out after dark and band them though. So maybe I can get a better pictures tomorrow if I can.

I bought these BCM in April of last year. Their feet are overly feathered and they have lots of white. First time I have ever had a hen with white. Lots of white feathers on the roosters feet.
I know he has a lot of white but corect body type ,good tail and stunning copper .
where they come from? if you know .
