Hi everyone. Hope you don't mind me popping in with a question.

I picked up a pair of 8 week old black copper marans cockerels 10 days ago, and they seem healthy. But one of them has a light colored bump on the top of his beak, right at the lower edge of the comb. There are several threads here that show the same thing, and it seems like Marans have this issue more often. And none of the threads resolved what the issue is. The other's beak looks fine.

My guess is that it's just from damage caused by pecking through a fence, or something similar. But maybe it's some kind of virus or infection. Here are some pics of both birds.

Thanks!

Yes, more pics please. Love their color....

Got roughly 8 days before hatchday. Momma doing good all thru the heat. Had a fan set up for her, plenty of fresh water and set a frozen water bottle next to her. Yesterday she shifted to the back corner and started building up the nest around her prepping for hatchday I'm guessing. I hope she is great momma like Joannie was.

OK. You asked for it! I took 100 pics this morning. Here are a few of them.

These are looking at a cat I chased away. This one's showing a white wing feather, which I guess is not desirable?

The only way I can tell them apart is that the dominant one has a small white bump on the top of his beak.

Sorry about the poor photos but I have a medical question regarding my Blue marans Hen. The skin around her left eye was turned pale and is beginning to swell, and often closes it when the other is still open. Anyone know what this might be and how to treat it? I’ve had to put a hen down before because of a terribly swollen eye but don’t want to get to that stage again. Sorry if this should be on a different thread but I didn’t know if her breed would have any effect (and it’s more to do with marans than half the stuff I post anyway).

Your hen has an infection . There is a cream I do use to treat that plus some antibiotic . Each country have a different name for a chooks medication . Ask your vet. Will clear in a few days if treated . I have few hens they lost they eyes still doing well.
Lucki look great love his complete body pattern and his rich and uniform copper , shame about his tail.
