Did you happen to see any of the eggs from the flock these birds came from?
Would be interesting info to have especially these cockerels mother's eggs.
Glad you asked. I did not.
But I did ask how egg color was. He said good.

He says a couple of breeding roosters were from #8 eggs. I have no reason to doubt him at this point.

But because he breeds for show, I am expecting egg color to not be great. I am okay with that as my Marans lay dark.

It will take a bit to fix if they do lay light but I would never be able to move forward without type.

I can work on their egg color while breeding my dark layers too.

It's a trade off I guess.

That being said, I have seen photos of his eggs. They range from around 4-7.

I second this, havent been here as long but im trying to get started one day and @Chooks man and everyone else are so helpful and patient with our learning curves. Thank you all so much sharing what you know.

good enough . breeding dark egg layer is easier if your flock have the genes .
it is a reason I always say do no cull a dark egg layer .because she will be needed in the future breeding programs .
