International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

This thread is dedicated to Black Copper Marans worldwide. All are welcome..... those with their very first BCMs .... the experienced breeders and everyone in between. We can share our experiences, knowledge and love of the breed.
This is my 3 week old French BCM (idk if there’s a difference or if they are all French) I’m pretty new to chicken tendering and she is soooo skittish absolutely panics about being picked up, I actually dropped her on her neck because she flailed out of my hands so hard 😭 she is also not feathering like my 2 OEs I have her with or my older chickies. I was wondering if anyone had some breed specific advice.

I just a call from a friend of mine he own a farm and he is interested in renting it to me or working with me in developing it . The place is about 4 hours drive south of my place . Thinking about taking the offer and relocate Troy s in it so the 2 farms will be close to each other not 10 hours driving like now so I can go and see the chooks there . Very good place up the mountain with a farming community and great farmer market .
What you guys think

4 hours is better than 10 hours. That's for sure.

It would make visiting the farm a bit easier :)

Go for it!

I am trying. It's good here at night even when it's 100 degrees it always cools down at night. It gets in the 50s. One night not long ago we got down to 35 one night. That is odd this time of year but we went through a cool spell. We are over the cool spell and now it's hot hot! Close to 100 degrees here soon.
It's hot here to in SC.
I can't stand it.

My young pullet chicks are always skittish until they reach egg laying age, then they become friendlier.

My young cockerels are friendly from the beginning :)

Also, the older they are when you get chicks, the less friendly they tend to be at first.
They have not been handled by you since hatch.
This will change as they mature.

Your pullet looks to be slow feathering as opposed to fast feathering. Nothing to worry about.
She's pretty.
Are you sure not a he?

I wondered if that's a cockerel because of the slow feathering. I guess time will tell.

Sorry you are suffering this heat! July and August are the hottest months here. Sometimes June can be really hot also but it was pretty nice this year. .
It's been unusually cool all the way up until yesterday. We were spoiled. Haha

Time to work outside as soon as it's light and quit before noon, go back out in the evening.

First good thing he has a stunning copper and complete body pattern plus his tail is lovely small. Great eyes and well coloured shanks.lovely chest
Bad thing : his body is short on V shape super narrow at the back
This legs are straight that good but they are close to each other need more space between them
You need to focus in fixing the body type first before you start thinking about any thing else .
