@Chooks man , do you have some golden cuckoos? I’d love to see pictures of them, so I know what good quality ones look like. I’ve tried scrolling through this thread and haven’t found any.


Just got back from holiday and realised how much bigger my marans eggs have gotten. Here are some from my BlCM (top) and BCM (bottom) hens. I feel like they look lighter on camera 😂

there is a golden cuckoo marans thread in this website .was active years ago when I was breding them ,was a guy who had a good strain was active on the thread too.I ll have a look for you .i ll post the link so you can have a look

We are not using this one for breeding but he has some good qualities. He is encouraging the hens to lay. He has a bad comb but good coloring. He is short to the ground and wide.

Opinions on this recipe to create golden cuckoos from Dark and BCMs. I was just brainstorming so it might not be the best way. I forgot to include the feathered legged genes, mostly because I don’t know how they work. Are the French feathered legs or English clean legs dominant? Does this method seem a bit too closed (I only mention 4 parents but it could be done with 6)? Obviously there would be a lot more selection for body type etc. along the way.

I don’t know why I’m planning already, I don’t even have the cuckoos yet! 😂

yes that will work but not to create a new strain ,you need more genetic diversity and lot of selection .
you need a BCM rooster to keep the gold in the cuckoo progeny dark enough other wise will get washed out and become too yellow because of the barring .
BCM rooster will help you to move away from the E/E type of the English cuckoo rooster ..
leg feathering is the easiest thing to breed I will no worry to much about .,breeding ER/ER golden cuckoo not E/E or E/ER is the hardest part other wise you end up with golden cuckoo with less marking or no marking at all same what we see in a BCM all black hens and rooster without shoulder coloration .
