International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Would that be basically the same as the white underfluff and feathers? I've noticed a lot of white and grey feathers in 2 of the 3 from this latest hatch.

Just to recap... (King's flock.)
King is loaded with white underfluff and tail feathers.
Joannie, Jett, and Betty are the OG's. Then his 3 daughters (and Prince is his son)
Dam's to the 4 are unknown. --- rookie mistake.
I thought I collected just the 3 OG hen's darkest eggs for this latest hatch which are Joannie and Betty (my darkest egg layers). But I think one of the daughters lays a dark egg.
So long story, longer... What I believe is happening is King has thrown white into his progeny which only has shown up in Prince from what I've noticed. Now if I accidently got his daughters eggs in the hatch, it's showed up in 2 of the 3 grand daughters in their hatch down and early feathering. Again, unknown Dam eggs.... rookie mistake #2.

I'm pretty sure there's a question in there somewhere but its all rambling now...😃

I'm making alot of mistakes. But I am learning and taking advise from the experts.
** I'm no longer breeding King and need to tag all breeder hens and either cull others or keep as layers only.

Building more pens as I speak but process has slowed with a recent F2 Tornado that brought 75-80 mph winds and touched down 30 miles away from me. We luckily only had 1 tree fall and mostly wind damage.
they are not a same thing .mottling is a gene can be passed down to the progeny from a parents ,need to copies to express it self on the chooks plumage .
the parasitic white and the white under fluff are are deformity of the production of the proper protein to help a proper coloration of the feathers ,can be inherited from the parents or just happen because of sickness and bad diet
some peoples think it is gene but no much study been done to prove it ,we know it is strongly inherited same like a sickness can be passed down too like wickness in the ammunes system .
hope this help .

YES!!!
Thank you... I've been ironically watching her because she's the only one without white. I'm gonna leg band her immediately and post more pics of her as she grows. She needs a name yet.

My marans are just over 9 weeks old. Yesterday I moved them from the grow out pin into my main flock. That went extremely well. They have been next to each other but no touching for several weeks. When I opened the door to let everyone together a couple of the big girls started chasing the little ones but Oster(my leghorn mix cockerel) put a stop to it immediately.
Now everyone is playing nice. The big girls and the little ones mostly go separate directions and don’t interact a whole lot and I’ve seen a few little squabbles but nobody looks to be in any danger.

One of the pullets still isn’t showing and copper coloring at all she is all black. Will she likely stay black or can it still come in past 9 weeks of age? 8ABBC062-116F-40B0-952C-5A24A4D2A390.jpeg AF884C9B-EFCB-46CE-87DA-BC1F7E1DCC17.jpeg 8C6FD358-0158-40AE-B1FB-D0ACADC9A879.jpeg D1DBC727-8267-4A26-BA1B-681562A65999.jpeg 61009071-2BC2-4724-A802-36C4490B9F88.jpeg 8B6EBCA2-B2CB-4B8C-B7CF-3FC815030A1A.jpeg

Mine turned 10 weeks on the 26th. Pretty close in age.
Yours seem to be growing faster than ours. I'll get some pics 2maro of them.

Mine have been eating 20% protein all flock feed since 4 weeks old. I had a lot of feather picking and missing feathers early do to overcrowding. I moved them outside, re homed a few, and switched them to high protein to help with feather regrowing. I don’t know for sure if the protein made the difference but it sure
looked like they hit a growth spurt when I changed the feed.

I look forward to seeing your pictures

Cant answer your question for positive but my Betty is all black and lays a very pretty dull sheen egg. She hasn't laid in awhile tho.

I named her after the Black Betty song by Ram Jam.
