International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

My marans are now 14 weeks old both cockerels have some white feathers coming in Sammy has one big white feather on the underside of his wing. Axl has some white in his hackle and saddle areas. One of the pullets Penny has a lot of copper in her heckles the other Betty is completely black.

they did grow a lot . lookng god .the cockerels look like they have yellow hackle not sure if it is just light or actualy they are yellow , love the pullet on the rump going to the coop , she is very long

Thank you for your comments. The hackles are a bit on the yellow end of what in would call copper. If it were human hair I would say it’s strawberry blonde in color. That’s why I picked their names. When they were skinny little guys bumping chests with heckles out all the time my wife said they looks like little rock stars dancing around with their hair flipping around. So I named them after Axl Rose of guns and roses and Sammy Hager or VanHallen.

When I went out to fill check on the chickens today both cockerels walked right up close so I took the opportunity to get some better pictures of their heckles. They start copper on top of their heads then fade to yellow at the tips. The wings are dark red/brown and saddle mostly copper with some white/silver. These being my first marans I assumed that was normal

LoveSong and Madona .LS is laying nice large egg speckle type but Madona she is not having it ,none .

Thank you. If my marans are not up to breed standards I will likely try breeding them to my Easter egger and olive egger girls. Since there are no breed standards for EE or OE the only thing that makes any difference is egg color. Eggs don’t even have a standard color lot of people want variety.

I guess I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing for now and see how they look and behave as they grow. For now I have a very well behaved flock as a whole but everyone is still young. I have a total of 15 pullets and 3 cockerels all 6 months old or younger sharing a coop. Everyone seems to know there place in the flock. From what I understand this could change any time as the cockerels grow into full roosters.

It's best to have a plan b set for when it all goes wrong..
