International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I don't get the hype... It's like a hairy 1/4 chicken.

And btw., it's Marans. Always with an S.
Geeeeez... Rookie 🤣
That is exactly what I thought. They were always a breed I said I’d never entertain when I was getting into chicken keeping. I’m the same with dogs, I don’t see much point in toy sized dogs like dachshunds, I much prefer big dogs. Then someone was selling them on Facebook close by, I had a spare pen, and so I got them. Now I love them.
Can’t explain what changed my mind, I think it’s just how friendly they are. They earned me quite a bit of money last year so I’m not complaining either!

And they smell good.

But they go broody more than lay eggs in my experience.

Sweet, useless birds.
Especally the bearded ones!
Totally ornamental. Cuddly.

I’m prone to taking things quite literally so it really had me confused!
It’s all fine though, I find it quite interesting actually.

I didn't understand the meaning of "banner year" but I guessed it is something good. @wrathsfarm is a good person and would not wish us bad things. that's how we "non english" people function.

I have bearded silkies. they are layer machines. when they want to sit I take them out to forage and they totally forget about sitting in the nest. they are active foragers.

I have just ordered marans eggs for my friend. I cannot have more breeds right now. I still have not finished all the coops and fences I need not to mention my house.

I plan to work with geese and ducks this year. a bit with silkies too. I prefer to sell hatching eggs. I'll try to enlarge my pita pita flock as well as egyptian fayoumi. they and dutch bantams are "bad times" birds. if they have enough room to forage they don't require a lot of feed.
