International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

@BlueTheBrahma ...Here's some pics from the 2 (1 male and 1 female) I hatched from Kong x Black. They are 11 weeks old now and I've suspected Black is possibly what hatcheries call a Midnight Majesty Marans (BCM x BR sex linked hybrid) Both are way over colored.

I have more pics of them if you'd like to see them.

The gold lacing on the breast shouts midnight majesty to me. It’s rare for BCMs to have that extent of ground colour, but I suppose those genes exist in BSMs I’ve seen.
Am I correct to say that the pullet’s legs are also completely slate?

Yes, they've been weird looking since chicks. I will sell the male and add the female to the mix flock now. That works out as I only have 1 female Olive Egger I've been procrastinating about integrating into the mix flock because it's a single bird. Now she'll have a buddy. I think I'll just keep Black in with the Marans tho and either not use her or dependant on what color egg the pullet lays, I could hatch more just for the dark layer eggs and sell the males.

I'm not sure, I didn't notice this. I will get a pic tomorrow.

If they are, what are you thinking there?

The lighting in the first photo doesn’t do his colour much justice! His genes for markings are spot on, he just wants some more autosomal red. Even if the tail is too big, it’s a good angle. Parasitic white is a shame but I think we’re all in the same boat regarding that.
Thank you for your comments. The first picture was taken in August and that color is fairly accurate. I think his color was sun bleached. All summer long he seemed to get lighter in color they were very pale yellow on the feather tips just before molting.

Marans should not have pure slate legs. The genes for this are id/id, recessive genes that shouldn’t be in the gene pool of pure marans, though hatchery quality or poorly bred BCMs often have this trait because the breeders don’t understand what the SOP means by slate shading, which actually comes from the Birchen allele.

If she had slate legs it increases the chance that she is part midnight majesty, as there’s more reason for those to carry the genes than a pure marans.

my birchen allele birds all have pink soles with their slate legs, with the pink peeking around the toe tips

I appreciate that I could have taken a better photo, but Napoleon is now 17 weeks old and does not have a tail. He has the curly downy feathers that grown around the bottom of the tail, but no central tail feathers or sickles.
Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it a good sign that his tail is going to be small? Here is a photo of Loki at the same age for comparison.
