International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

View attachment 4093804The cuckoo eggs arrived, I checked with the breeder and they are dark cuckoos, not silver, despite the lighter hackles.

Not the darkest eggs but they are nice and shiny and the ideal, round shape for Marans eggs, so should compliment the darker egg genes of the other lines in this project.

I can’t wait to have baby cuckoos, it’s a plumage that has really grown on me since first getting marans.
I had 2 golden cuckoos last year, I've always wanted them and they were beautiful! Got killed by a dog, unfortunately 😪 I've remedied that since

Some pics of my Wheatens, I accidentally posted on wraths thread

Not a 100%on this one ,you are alright about the English cuckoo but not about the French.
The French cuckoo are ER/ER ,S/S ,B/B they are birches.they are not uniform like the English. They have a lighter hackle, back and lancets.

The English dark cuckoo is accepted in they standard .they create them by crossing a silver cuckoo rooster to a solid black hens.
The French Don t have a dark cuckoo
Joesmarans
Thanks for clarifying, I think this is what I was trying to say but I complicated it. Lovely to have you back.

@Joemarans I recall you were writing a book about marans breeding? How is that going?

Last year wasn’t too eventful for my marans, but I am proud of this boy, Napoleon. His comb’s big and scruffy but his type is a big improvement, finally a cock without squirrel tail, as well as a chunky type. He’s about five months old in this photo.
