International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

@ozmarans I've been waiting a whole year for more BBS Silvers from @Bantambirds beautiful birds. Some Legbars found their way in, also. 🙂

Two dark cuckoos for far, just hatched in the last hours, so hopefully more to come. A boy and a girl judging by their head spots.

Two Black Coppers from Chanel, the first black chicks I’ve had from her as the others have been blues. Cant wait to see these with Chanel’s type and Loki’s colour.
Congrats so far. Wishing you a great hatch.

The two cuckoos, unfortunately not joined by more yet. The first is a boy, based on that big white spot on his head. The other just has a faint spot so is probably a pullet. So at least I got a pair of them, and I’m picking up the others from a different breeder in June.

(just in the feed bucket for transport). All three of Chanel’s eggs hatched, and are all blacks.
All quite dark faced chicks, but no head spots. Really looking forward to having some black copper hens that are well bred (don’t have yellow legs like Natasha). And if one’s a boy and stands out, I might keep him and turn the GCM project into a four clan system, breeding him to one of the cuckoo lines.

I’ve got plenty of growers this time (the last bags from the shop) so hopefully they’ll get a good growing season and lay through the winter.

@ozmarans I can’t remember if I’ve asked before but I read something once about the blue allele diluting egg colour in marans hens. As in a blue hen will lay lighter eggs than an otherwise genetically identical black.
Is this in anyway true, or is it a misconception from the fact many blue coppers are hatchery quality?

Super excited for you, and looking forward to watching them grow.
