Introducing the Ideal Dozen

Pics
We were banded today. A couple got away without getting individual portraits, but each of the 4 breeds has a green, a purple, and a blue.

Eating mash out of my hand.

They don't want to be picked up, but they'll do this.

The green-banded Dominique lost her band already. I guess I was so worried about them being too tight that I made it too loose.

I'm a little nervous about the night. It's not supposed to go below 72 and is actually supposed to get warmer rather than cooler if it changes at all so I'm down to the 60w heat bulb. The Langshans are noticeably less feathered than the others.

I guess I'll be out there in the wee hours checking on them again.

We have lost several bands already. I was too worried about getting them too tight and made them too loose. Oh well.

I just had a cute moment. I'd looked in the vent on the door and saw them all sitting at the far end of their brooder/coop enjoying the open vent wall and the view into the wider world. I opened the door and couldn't get the adorable picture because they jumped up and rushed to the door to see if I had any goodies for them. :D

BTDT.
I actually try to pull the band over the feet before tweaking the lock and trimming the tail.

Live and learn. :)

I was doing better by the end, having figured out how to tuck the little head under my wrist, restrain the chick's wings in my hand, and use my thumb and finger to get the desired leg to stick out.

The first few were a comedy of errors in chick handling. :D

I put them on my lap while sitting in a chair.
