Raptors -- it's not just illegal, there's a fine up to a few THOUSAND bucks and up to TWO YEARS in jail, depending on the species and circumstances. You can get permits if necessary, but they are NOT always easy to obtain.

Cowbirds, crows, some blackbirds -- there are CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) regs that allow farmers to kill these birds IF the birds are in the act of depredation (eating crops or killing livestock). No permit necessary.

English sparrows, pigeons, starlings (non-natives) -- not protected at all.

my question is...who makes these laws. and why do i have to live by them? the only answer for me is....some jacka$$ in gubment, political bullcrap system who has no idea what he/she is even talking about. and the last part of the answer is. i don't. i refuse. i won't.

Then you have no right to complain when some guy decides to ignore the laws against theft and steals your car, or when some other guy decides to ignore the laws against sexual assault and rapes your relatives.

Laws apply to ALL citizens, not just those who choose to recognize them. The laws are there for a reason, whether you happen to understand the reason or not.

Not necessarily:

And if you'll actually *think* about those "dumb" laws in context, you'll see that most of them had good reasons behind them -- at least at the time they were enacted.

For instance --

"Hollow logs may not be sold."
-- this keeps lumber sellers from scamming customers.

More than 8 women may not live in the same house because that would constitute a brothel.
-- brothels were probably a problem in early settlements.

"“Crimes against nature” are prohibited."
-- there are lots of old laws against sodomy and bestiality in many states.

"Ministers are to be dedicated to God and therefore are not eligible to hold a seat in either House of the Legislature."
-- good old separation of church and state.

And so on!

no complaints here. anyone tries anything about rape or stealing from me, will be shot on site. period. i won't even ask questions. i understand reason perfectly well. i also understand freedom. do you? or are you reading a law about freedom? not me. not anymore. don't give me this "laws are for everyone" crap. laws are for the people who wrote them. why did michael vick get two years behind bars for dog fighting, yet a man driving drunk and kills a person get 30 days? justice? please.....laws are for for everyone my a$$. how about the teacher who was arrested for sleeping with a minor student. she didn't go to jail because she was "too pretty". yea, you can have your laws.

When my father was raising us to be good citizens he never pulled out a book of federal or state statutes. But he always would refer to the laws of common sense. When going through life it is up to each of us to balance the laws of common sense with laws of the state.

Then move somewhere that doesn't have the stupid laws that we have. When I stop you, or arrest you, for one of our stupid laws, you can remind me of how stupid they are. And, I will still do my job, enforce that stupid law, and hand you your traffic summons or criminal complaint.

You don't get to pick and choose what laws you think are right, or those that are wrong, and obey only those laws of your choosing. Laws are on the books, and there are those of us that must enforce them.

I think and just my opinion, is that if we enforce every single law, good and bad, without regard for common sense. That we will not only have not enough jails but not enough police to enforce them. Plus a lot of angry judges to boot. Sorta like the NOAA that tried to have a employee and myself arrested for killing keys rats. It tickled us pink and we laughed to almost crying as the magistrate screamed at her in his office.
